Generally, try the home page of whatever military you're looking for/uses the bit of kit you're making. Or the home page of the weapon manufacturer. Colt for the M16 and so on.

EDIT: And [R-MOD]Bob_Marley for weapon pictures.

A few of the good old reference sites have died lately, but as I was searching for reference photos for a new weapon project I discovered an awesome site. Well 2 in fact.

This first one is nice high res close up shots of pretty much all details on a large selection of weapons. It seems that the site is more or less dedicated to weapons that has gone out of service.

It has lots and lots of montages and equipment attachment stuff.. That way we can model the attachments much more accuratly instead of having to guesstimate all that much

I had a lot of good links on my old hdd before it died, sadly I cant post them now.
