Lets just throw money at the problem guys that'll solve it. I think we should at least test it out, as an overall it can't hurt to test it out for one version while PR is young. again Ill stress the fact that like 3rd person its an advantage which you just don't have in real life. When you focus on something you don't "zoom in", also this will be one of the biggest realism changes PR could make as an overall and would increase the usefulness of players using scopes and binocs etc. As an overall we just need to take that one step and breach the gap. one last thing is FPS (yes frames per second) Performance is severely limited when you "bionic zoom" onto an area whereby lots of trees or smoke or both! You will actually significantly improve the stability of PR from this one change, and decrease the amount of information required by the server and client.

Don't consider this zoom an advantage but rather a compensation, a bit like gear-menu and other HUD components. Until we play these games in a virtual reality, things have to have a workaround to compensate the lack of RL functions. I suppose ppl just have a different thresholds for the amount of compensation. Anyway, before we test the removal of this zoom I would like to see the binocular function fixed. Just for the sake of Insurgents who have to use it a lot. It is way too complicated to use binoculars atm cos u can't run with them and the godawful switch-a-ganza which starts when u change positions while holding binocs. I know the fix might be on the shoulders of BI-devs and not on PR but would there be any workaround perhaps? While the removal of the zoom might work, I am still skeptical and afraid that it will just make the asymmetrical desert missions worse for the Ins who rely heavily on the zoom and binocs.

The removal of zoom effectively means that every player suddenly suffers from severe myopia.

I get why Arma has zoom. Read it all.
Just don't think it is necessary. Every other game works fine without it. It is IMO a ridiculous feature for PR-version that hinders immersion and gameplay. And if it also demanding on computers ( as per Dales post ).....Remove it! Dare to challenge the Arma world pls |

Sorry, but if you think removing the zoom is more realistic you must be legally blind IRL.
Think of it this way. When you're zoomed in you've got the proper, realistic zoom level. The size at which the human eye sees things. When you're not zoomed in you're actually zoomed out further than is realistic. You're not bionically zooming in. You're bionically zoomed out. Most people already prefer scopes in most situations. Removing the FOV zoom would only mean there would be even fewer CQB optics. And if you get framerate problems when you zoom in your PC sucks or you're running on way too high graphics settings. And besides, scopes would in that case give you a much harder framerate hit, and when you have to rely on them to properly see anything beyond point-blank, it would be even worse for you. |

the "Bionic" zoom as you put it. Has been discussed at length both on the PR forums & A2 forums before. It's there to simulate your eyes focusing in on an object at a distance/to make up for the engines own short comings.

"Why do they even try to invade, why do they try to conquer? Why do they risk everything for such a small dominance? Because war is all they know, and without war they have no meaning for life, no meaning for the future. They are born into a world of such violence, and ignorance. The final battle is near, and their annihilation is at its peak. We are coming, and our numbers will darken your skies, you cannot run, you cannot hide.

I think of it as squinting. When you squint your eyes, you lose some of your peripheral vision, but gain more of a focus. I think its fair.

Yeah remove the eye zoom its unrealistic and like RGG
A next good thing is when removing that the ranges of firefight getmore closer and i dont make "snipershots" with an mg on 1k or so. (I can do that, no problem with eyezoom) |

I'll try to post some screenshots of me trying to reproduce that, at my max resolution on my monitor later, if you don't mind. Not all players have the hardware for that would be my guess...including me
