I am looking to upgrade my PC and I have $200 and to spend. So I figured about $150 on a card and $50 on a power supply. I am looking to reduce lag in OA and also boost framerate. Here is my current set up
I think buying a videocard now vs a new motherboard/CPU would be better wouldnt it ??? My vid card really sucks. I can raise the budget a lil more if you think a new MB/CPU would better fit my price range. I currenty run Arma spec demo at avg 23 FPS Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ (2 CPUs), ~3.0GHz MB: MSI K9N6PGM2 supports 95W quad core Memory: 4GB DDR2 Hard Drive: 500 GB Video Card: Galaxy NVIDIA GeForce GT 240 512 DDR5 Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit PSU- 450w Here are 2 cards Im looking at which one is best ? Also I dont care bout the brand just which ever is best. GTX 460 Super Overclocked Galaxy 60XMH6HS3GML GeForce GTX 460 Super OC Video Card - 768MB GDDR5, PCI-Express 2.0, Dual DVI, Mini HDMI, SLI, DirectX 11, Fermi, w/FREE Starcraft II Game Trial Offer Download at TigerDirect.com GTX 460 SE EVGA 01G-P3-1366-TR GeForce GTX 460 SE Video Card - 1GB GDDR5, PCI-Express 2.0, Dual DVI, Mini HDMI 1.4, DirectX 11 at TigerDirect.com Here is what my PC looks like ![]() I dont think I can get by with the GT240 so i think upgrading GPU would be better than CPU right now. suggestions.... |

The 1GB version will be faster. That's a great price on the 768mb version though.

Go for the 1GB... and I don't think 50 bucks will get you a good PSU, I got a 465W PSU for 50 bucks, it was about 70-100 for a 500-600W

I thought the galaxy super OC would be better ? a OC GTX 460 card on here rates about the same dont know if its work the extra 20 bucks for the 1GB
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/M...768_MB/33.html Would 450W be enuf for this card ? I can get a 650W for 50 bucks on tiger. |

I think Im gunna get this one
Galaxy 60XMH6HS3GML GeForce GTX 460 Super OC Video Card - 768MB GDDR5, PCI-Express 2.0, Dual DVI, Mini HDMI, SLI, DirectX 11, Fermi, w/FREE Starcraft II Game Trial Offer Download at TigerDirect.com Its going to save a lil money. Will this card bottleneck my CPU too ? OR should I just upgrade the MB/CPU ? Cause I dont have enuf to do both and I want to get in on the OA multiplayer action really bad. Here is what my PC looks like ![]() I dont think I can get by with the GT240 so i think upgrading GPU would be better than CPU right now. suggestions.... |

Cards some times do that, I have 3GBs of VRAM(im sure
Your CPU isn't that bad, its just gonna slow down some AI and make you lag in situatiosn with loads of AI, which shouldnt be a problem in PR, or really in OA multi. I would get the card, reap the rewards and if you have extra cash get a new CPU. |

Get new card and get a new PSU. For power supplies, don't just look at wattage figures. Those can be really deceptive. What you need to look at is the PSU's 12V output.
