Question facetracknoir

Track Ir is big in ArmA2, however can be expensive.

I just found this by accident:

Browse facetracknoir Files on SourceForge.net

I have not tried it but it states a simple webcam will give you track ir so to speak, and with no hats, helmets etc, and it works with ArmA2 !!

You need face Api too:

http://www.seeingmachines.com/produc...api/downloads/

and Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1

http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...tfx35setup.exe

Let me know if its any good ......... I have yet to install my Webcam or I would try it

.

If its anything like FreeTrack, then it should work pretty good. I have heard nothing but good things about FreeTrack, although nothing can compare to the real thing

TrackIR simply put, is the only way I ArmA. Makes flying 100000000% better

Ok I installed it.

1. Install the net framework if you need it

2. Install the Face API (Need to register to download it - but its free)

3. Install facetracknoir

4. Start Facetracknoir - go to Open, find the ArmA config file and open it (this will set up the best settings for ArmA2)

5. Press Start - test it works on the preview cam

6. Minimise it

7. Launch Arma, ensure Free track is on

I found it very, very choppy, and un useable, but I only have an old 15fps cam, you need at least a 30 fps cam so I hear.

Need to play with it a bit more, but it does work !!

*WARNING!*

Once you get it going and play with it for the first time, you may become hooked and not play without it. Just throwing it out there for you

So far I'm impressed! Allthough I am sitting with my laptop away from home so I can't say how well it works in games such as ARMA II yet (and since I own neither TrackIR nor freetrack I can't really compare with them either). But from what I've seen in the program itself it seem to be quite accurate tracking wise and doesn't seem to have any problems finding my face!

Anyone know of any lightweight free game which supports trackir/freetrack which I could try it out on now?

facetracknoir, freetrack, trackIR. Any of them. Once you have the ability to turn your head while keeping both hands on the controls, your mind will be blown. Flying gets easier and feels more natural. Walking in a formation or checking out things to your left and right is as simple as a quick head turn.

It takes a bit to get used to turning your head, and adjusting the settings but once its rockin you won't be able to imagine playing with out it. I personally couldn't figure out how I had kept from crashing helicopters without it.

iRacing is one that pops to mind. They have a free demo for DL, even if you aren't into racing you can still see how much tracking software improves your game.
