YouTube Video

Ducking in real quick to show a video of what some flying looks like with head tracking. In orbit for exfil of team on daylight snatch raid. Was beta Win7 time so I never bothered to setup the audio recording for TS. I use the TrackIR 4 hardware with the new 5 software. Screen resolution is 5040 X 1050 on an old 8600. New card means AA is back on and looks better.

And as to using head tracking in BF2, look here for a solution that might assist you..

Hello guys, i cannot seem to get this to work. (Have my dad's Hercules Dualpix Chat and Show and Windows 7).

I installed the faceAPI demo and FacetrackNOIR and overwrote the update in the facetrackNOIR folder. Then I loaded up the arma.ini, select Freetrack as game protocol, the cam detects my face (yellow 'circle' between my eyes, nose and mouth). But then, I load up the game and nothing happens?

works like a charm if it hadn't been for my bad webcam.. need something with 30 fps.. i can get the webcam up to around 30 fps with faceapi software if i turn the resolution on the cam down, but this dosn't work in FacetrackNoIr where it uses 640x480 i think and has an fps around 15.. can somebody recommend a cheap webcam that'll work well?

It works!
Thanks for this good source! I've just tried it with ARMA and it's really cool. I still need a bit finetuning for sensitivity and stuff and might have to look for a better place for the webcam, but it's definately a good alternative to the high-expensive IR stuff.

@vn88: Earlier you mentioned, that these racing games support TrackIR. As I mentioned, FaceTrackNoIR is PPJoy compatible. This is what you could try (I did it for IL-2 1946 and FreeFalcon 5):

- download PPJoy and GlovePIE (seperate softwares )
- Install both.
- Install a virtual joystick for PPJoy (via Windows Configuration Console) and apply the settings that are in the ClientFiles shipped with FaceTrackNoIR.
- Start GlovePIE and load the script provided in the ClientFiles. This emulates TrackIR.
- Run FaceTrackNoIR, with the PPJoy protocol.
- Try your game!
- Give us feedback

[...]

Quote from BIS forum thread explaining how to get this to work on other games with trackIR. But is possible to freelook in BF2 using a joystick(in this case a virtual one)? I can imagine it being delayed though.

Head tracking looks like a fail for people with glasses. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

i found trackIR 4 pro, for $175,

does not seem to be too dear for what you getting. you don't have to stuff around with your web cam and mod which I have heard is very laborious it probably easier just fork out the money and by the commercial product, I would think you get better soft ware support as well.

And it does not seem to look ugly ether,

In ARMA 2 i heard you can use it to lean around corners and it does give you a greater sense of awareness and control over you character.

So i think it worth the money, at least for this game it seems to work well.

I know if you plan on flying you just have to get one.
