The only problem with a lot of the online play in Arma 2 from my experience is they either want you to have a ton of obscure mods to play or they are passworded co ops for clans. The pvp scene isn't what it should be, and the big hope is that PR will make that turn around.

Co op online is the big hit with clans, but never really interested me since the AI doesn't have the faults that a human does and can't really do things at random. I like the randomness of a human player since it is usually a lot more interesting strategy wise.

Beannachtai na Feile Padraig! and here is to the hope that Arma2 PR can make a great pvp experience.

When I open the browser servers in ArmA2, I always want to cry))). There tons of servers and not any players. I would like to ask: where are you, a great community of ArmA? PvP games are played only clans, on certain days at a private, password protected servers. Team games on the public servers in ArmA does not exist. And that's not the addons that you want to download. Most servers are configured so that they can play as additional addons, and without them. In PvP no one, as in BF2: PR does not playing and thats it.
So I very much hope on AA2: PR, and I want them to have it worked out!

Well to be fair there are almost all day numerous warfare BE servers from 10 to 40 players,
one big berzerk server ranging up to 100 players, ArmA2.ru running AAS with 20 to 40 players.
In addition you have couple of random servers playing different kinds of PvP missions,
as well as the competitive scene playing on private servers as well as the big tournaments
playing with 50 to 100 players once or twice a week.

Of course it is by far not what this game is capable in terms of numbers. One has to accept
that in addition to the poor release state of ArmA II, the PvP community and their mission
designers have made countless of faults.
Like clans doing semi private play on passworded servers excluding people, as well as the
lack of public PvP mission concepts tailored for new players to get into the game.
So many new players either left discouraged or played Domination or Evolution (coop vs AI)
style instead.

Hi Kju...

Well he is totally right. This is why I hope the PR mod can bring the players together and populate the servers for PvPers...
I don´t really play besides my tournament cause it is just frustrating to find a server where enough players are on (PvP) or where you don´t have to figure out first which mods you have to download so that it works.

It is really great that the game is so open to the modding community but it is also it´s weakness because the people get spread out so much until everybody is supposed to play his own stuff(exaggerating). So I really welcome the PR approach of eat this or die.
Although I have to say there is the AAS mod out there which is obviously PvP and where you don´t need anything to download for. Always new missions(maps) are released but besides the servers kju mentioned there is not much going on in the PvP scene, which is really a shame because it is always a great action and makes fun as hell.

Yeah there are some TvT missions where you don't have to download anything since it just uses scripts in the mission and the standard objects in the vanilla arma2 game. Sbsmac has a script system (google sbsmac devheaven) that are easy enough for just about anyone to use to make a TvT server, it is just getting it populated that is sometimes difficult.

You guys should consider using that game for a base instead of ARMA2 since my friend Carl said his mom bought him ARMA2 and it was too glitchy to play so he told her to return it. And she did.
Do you know much about ArmA 2 apart from what your friend told you?

A couple of the Arma 2 launchers that you can download to start your game via an interface instead of command line have built in server browsers that you can refresh ( good for loading the proper mods for the server u want to play on and seeing who is playing what)

If youre in the US and are into the ACE2 mod try out SOCOM's server...usually pretty decent play there at all hours and they keep ACE2 updated regularly as well. Alot of the vanilla servers are dead because ACE2 is where its at ...Im sure when Arrowhead expansion hits the shelves it will pick back up. PR:A2 will bring a ton more people as well. OFP2 DR was a flop..but i wasted my money on it as well lol. Made a good present for a friend that doesnt have internet connection =)

I play all the time on American servers with 150-ish ping. Dunno how ARMA handles pings like that, but in BF2 it works fine.
