One of the best things about arma is the long walks through the bush... no joke... It constantly keeps you on your toes. The fighting can start out of no where and all of a sudden everyone drops to ground trying to find out where it's coming from, blindly firing in the general direction to act like we know what's going on :P

PvP MP maps could be done in several ways. For example We on AAS focusing fight on smaller area in same way like it is in AAS in PR so if you have one or two objective to defend or attack you will always be in contact. In AASX we develop engine which give you endless possibilities of connecting the flags so theoretically you can create one map true whole island with about 200 objectives and link between objectives will insure you will have heavy engagement all the time.

PR is not about eavy engagement all the time. Big part of the time, especially on 4x4km maps - the biggest we have atm- is consumed on moving around, setting up FOBs and fortifications around them. Heavy engagements begin after bases are set up and troops carry on for capturing the target area. And on smaller maps, 2x2km and 1x1km, situation is not that much different either. Lots of time is also spent on defending, which can mean long perioids (tens of minutes) of inactivity. In insurgency mode it's not uncommon to see someone sit tight on a same spot with the mobile phone (a.k.a. IED detonator) in his hand for twenty minutes waiting for a prey valuable enough.

finding combat usually isn't a problem. finding the enemy very often is. i don't know how many times i sprayed a patch of forest blindly only to see that i got 5 kills without every actually seeing anyone

As seen in devastation, the AO is a decent size that contains all the fighting in one area. Most ArmA missions take place in one area of the map as well.

I know what PR is playing it from its beginning. As my experience is in both games when I’m comparing it ArmA is much slower and dependable on team play and real strategy and coordination between squads. This will be new team play experience level for most of the BF2 PR players who never played ArmA.

But there is one problem with it depending with who you are playing. Difference between organized team play and just individual pubbies is more increase here so on the same map you could have blast with proper players or complete disappointment and all this experience depend about players not the game.

Sorry I didn’t describe it before I’m looking this from ArmA perspective and when I’m talking about intensity I want to say we are in AAS trying to reach BF2PR intensity level in PvP.

ArmA is completely new experience and don’t forget as is difference between BF2 Vanilla and PR prepare yourself in same difference between PR and ArmA.

Yeah, players tend to be hard coded. But that's the price that have to be paid for the possibility to have several full servers available almost 24/7. I hope PR:ARMA's player base will soon reach the point where no one doesn't have to wait two weeks for a tournamet, in order to get a chance to play at the first place.

If you already have ArmA just type AAS in filter under map name and you will get some server running it and join the game.

It is balanced between realism and arcade and you can more go in one or other way by changing the rules set. Goal is to keep it real without losing playability.

AAS is based on Joint Operation style but AASX will be more as PR even better because is based on new and unique AAS system, it could be called AAS3 because of its endless possibilities of linking objectives. With it you can create complex maps which will be actually very simple for understand and play.

Arma II also holds more people on one server and them bf2 and the maps are not 225 km they are like 5-20km when you play online but in the game its like 225km.
