Default Weapon Animations

Something that really annoyed me in ARMA II was the lack of good first person weapon animations. Reload animations were non-existent, hands would frequently clip through weapons or not even grip the weapon correctly at all. Will PR:ARMA II seek to correct these things, or are they low priority?

For those that have played ARMA II, do you think this is necessary or are you fine with the current "style" of animations?

I dont think it is a priority compared to making the game fun to play. One of the things that annoys me in some MP missions is the lack of a definite target for the mission. Making an insurgency mode for Arma2:PR will be paramount to making the transition into that game a success in my opinion.

I'll just post what I posted to another player on the BI forum

The reason the reload animations are quite generic is it allows addon/mod makers to easily create weapons without having to worry too much about the animation aspect of it, which significantly reduces workload and results in the hundreds of weapons addons availabile at the moment. It's also less work for BI. imagine having to create individual weapon reload animations for like 100 different guns, while allowing free-look at all times. I'm yet to see any other game with this.

freelook > weapon animations.

something might be done about this in the future, not a priority as it doesnt make a massive difference to how ARMA runs yet

Are you seriously looking at something like that when you are in a battle? I dunno but when I´m fighting I have absolutely no time to appreciate whatever reload animation there is.
I´ve read this pretty often now that people are bothering with the reload animation in arma but I can´t follow this. Don´t you have any other problems or wishes something like teamplay? In my opinion reload animations are not even secondary.

In my opinion they are important. Not first priority, but secondary they are. Look at PR:BF2 - how often have reload animations been redone in the last few versions? Not only those. Even small and tiny animations that really are not very important, such as the field dressing. And I think that improved the overall feeling quite a bit. Immersion.

That's not something I'd expect for 0.1 or 0.2, but as soon as the mod is generally in a polished shape like PR:BF2 is now, I think reload animations are worth taking a look at.

It would be nice to have, but the part of me that knows what's involved in making a game realizes this is too much work for too little gain. It looks pretty, but given the way the ArmA 2 system is for body movement and weapon handling, it's going to be too much work to implement. It is much better to just set the reload time on the weapon than to actually animate each and every animation for a weapon.

I don't know if it's easily doable, but I would really treat as a priority the death animation problem (as in, you only die after your current animation is done. Ex. You kill a guy which is just standing up from prone. You can shoot him a hundred times during the transition, but he only dies after the whole stand-up animation is done.
