personally I'd say just focus on infantry / light vehicles / support choppers and an insurgency mode of play for your first release. Put in AI civilians, make it fairly easy for insurgents to blend in with them, and penalize the coalition team for collateral damage. That will make a fun game without getting into anything particularly hard to balance, then just work from there.

After buying ARMA2 Combined Ops i straight went to the Helicopter tutorial since i thought it would be harder to fly than it is on PR (I cant fly in PR). Well, for my surprise, i can actually fly an helicopter! I can fly, land, pick up some soldiers and drop them off just fine, while in PR i could just get airborne, fly over the sea and crash into the ground..
Just my 2 cents, i personally think its easier to fly than it is on BF2: PR |

I assume the PR knows what they can and cannot add without ruining playability

BF2:PR has that balance just about right. Jets are only useful if the ground troops lase. No lazes and the jet is just a waste of a player. Teamwork is the key word here. Make all CAS require teamwork to be effective | |

AGREED. People, enable your gameplay-brains and start thinking of BOTH sides. "Would I like to be in that tank's position without any chance of survival?" etc. |

as far as im aware the insurgent forces dont get access to tanks and at most relie on jeeps with machine guns mounted on the back, do you know how hard it is for a player flying in the sky and 200 mph to spot infantry on the ground, the planes like the a-10 are great for owningf a server where peoploe r driving tanks and stuff, but if you have taliban forces who are infantry only, the a-10 must relie on ground forces to spot for him, and ofcourse the taliban forces must fear the air assets of the british forces just like in real life where they check for responce times and know how long they have to engage a target before air power gets on station and then retreat.
i really dont want it too be where the insurgent forcres can take on the british in a stand up fight, they must use hit and run tactics or face certain defeat. in project reality for bf2 i also noticed that the insurgent ak47 and other weapons where just as accurate ironsighted with the us and british optic rifles, and made them able to outpower allies in infantry engagements, i hope recoil and possibley bullet dispersion is higher for insurgent forces to highlight the shoot and scoot, spray and pray mentality |
