Exclamation Alpha Networks Server - Running BIS Beta Patch Serverside

Be advised that in order to connect to the Alpha Networks server, you need:

  • Updated PRAA.EXE from here.
  • BIS Beta Patch from here (ideally the latest)

This is to compare performance between servers/clients not running the patch, and those that are.

If you are not using the new .exe plus the BIS beta patch, you will be kicked from the server upon joining (failed signature checks).

The server name in the browser list also clearly states the connection requirements, as does the MOTD.

Cheers.

I'd love to test it out but there are never any players on that server.

Surfer and kordax are right, atm there is no real motivation to check it out since all are playing on TG (because all are playing on TG^^).

Might be cool to do regular test events on fixed dates which are advertised on TG server too. If a bunch of players heads over to AN server on say every Tuesday and Thursday 1900 UTC, this might motivate others to follow and we get some info on how beta is running.

Just turn off TG for one day and make an announcement.

Playing PR:BF2 since v0.7
Playing PR:ArmA2 since v0.1 Beta release

That's an option we will definitely look at. We need feedback on the performance of the patch server-side as well as client-side. The Alpha Networks server is managed by ourselves so it makes sense to use that.

It is in everyone's interest that we get this tested

TG server should be used for server side patch, and other announcements. The TG server is popular because it has the best average ping for everyone around the world.

you know that not one Australian can use the Alpha server due to ping kicking.

EDIT: they should add the beta server side patch to TG now.

I'd be happy to assist with performance feedback and testing but I can also confirm that players like myself in Australia (we get maybe 240ish pings) are automatically kicked from the Alpha Server within a few minutes of joining because of ping. That's why I play on the TG server.
Wish you on Alpha all the best with testing though.

Two of the best rounds of PR ArmA2 I've had have been with you two guys (Swedge, Mad Rabbit). And bear in mind I've been playing it since day 1 of development!

However, during this beta stage we have to focus on various things. TG is by far the most popular server right now, and serves a diverse population covering a vast area. We know that a lot of people who play PR ArmA2 don't visit these forums, and so would not get any message in regards to enforced requirement of the beta patch, new praa.exe etc. Therefore we believe that to make such a change on this popular server would be counter productive.

That's why we'd prefer to leave TG as it is, as they're doing a mighty fine job.

In order to test using the client-side and server-side beta, we'll use the Alpha Networks server. It's managed by the PR Dev Team. It's of a very high spec. It is able to server a wide geographic area (Eastern US, and Europe). That should be sufficient for our needs for this testing. I highlight 'our needs' for good reason, because clearly this open beta is to provide us (the Dev team) with feedback. I don't wish to sound brutal (honest!), but the fact our Australian friends, or indeed others out of reach of this server, can't play on it is of lesser importance than the need to get some form of feedback from a population who can.

Please don't take offence at that, because none is intended. The sooner we get the feedback we need, the sooner we can make changes across the board (i.e. covering all the servers). Therefore if you can join that server, we suggest you do
