talk about the apache, not broad reaching debates on how far gameplay should defeat realism and vice versa.

I think the Combined Arms apache ported to PR would result in win, assuming there are no technical issues.

News | Combined Arms (new forum, not really active yet)
combinedarms.myfreeforum.org :: Index

Download, have a try and talk about what you want in PR (or not in PR as some of CA isn't desirable imo)

I'm not sure if it is the field of view or the position of the camera in the Apache cockpit, but I find it annoying in addition to the 'tintedness'.

The Longbow radar would be devastating with it's real capabilities, but the pseudo-FLIR from CA doesn't override the need for spotters.

I would like the nose camera view option from CA, which is realistic too considering the pilot can see out the nose using the sensor pod.

@ Rudd, WTF I haven't even seen the new forums yet. It's friggin sweet!

@^ Above poster.

The fake flir is much better than bf2's pseudo (fuzzy black and white) camera and PR's (green tint over black and white) camera. The purpose of the flir is to allow operators to identify targets easily and CA's flir does just that.

Indeed.

Yeah relatively, just not to the extent where it's a balance issue or reduces the need for spotters in general.

Also , shouldn't the apache be easy to disable from a few MG hits in the tail? It would make this game more realistic

I don't think they can make it so the tail has different damage values than the rest of the Apache.

I have actually had times when I've been piloting the LB and it's taken a Stinger hit, and the controls become really sluggish, and sometimes I have no control of roll, only pitch and yaw.
Dunno if that's supposed to be in-game or not, but it seems like the tail has been damaged.
Only experienced this on the LB though.

Anyway, do people also experience problems I described in my second point with the poor free-look abilities in the pilot seat of the Apache?
This has been annoying me when I practice in training, and it has been near debilitating when you're in an aerial dogfight with an enemy attack chopper on a real server.

It can definately be done. I don't think MG disabling an apache is realistic though.

A lucky 7.62mm hit can send the apache in a tailspin. A 12.7mm will definatelly make the helicopter loose its tair rotor if it hits somewhere around the tail. The first thing, with the AK round almost downing a apache happened IRL in Afganistan, durring anaconda.

The British Mk1 however is another story.

Can take hits up to 23mm AAA.
