I am a very avid reader and enjoy non-fiction books about the Middle East and Central Asia. Recently I finished up a book by a Moroccan man who trained at a few of the AQ/Taliban camps in Afghanistan in the 90's.
He describes the training and on the very first day they ran for 4 hours straight. After that they would run daily up into the mountains barefoot and they were never told how long or how far they were running (making pace setting tough). One of the camps he trained at was run by Hekmatyar who to this day is a Taliban leader with camps in Pakistan. Overall I think it will depend on the map/situation. In a situation where the US/NATO is moving into a new location and the Taliban have homefield advantage I think giving them triple if not unlimited sprint would be realistic. On the other hand fighting in an area with a few fighters who have lived off stale bread and onion for the last month might not meet with the same level of stamina (the Taliban are not known for treating their troops to creature comforts like meat and fire). http://www.amazon.com/Inside-Jihad-M...9594903&sr=8-1 For those interested in the book it ends up being a whos who of AQ's A list. The author trains directly under the guy who pretty much single handedly made the false AQ and Iraq connection for the Bush administration that lead to the invasion of Iraq. |

That is indeed interesting...
There was a thread about it before, and someone cleverly asked "What are the physical requirements for being an insurget?". I know you are talking about Talibans, just mentioning you have an argument there! Cheers! |

Guys, when a new player comes, just answer his question and go on your merry way, instead of going berserk! It's THAT simple! I think that they should have better hill climbing abilities on foot as well, these people live in the mountains after all. They use the mountains everyday to survive, so it should not be a constant jump/tired fest the entire round.

Because the US Marines, British Paratroopers, and US army don't do fitness training at all, and are all a load of lardy idiots, are they?
I Disagree - the Taliban are no fitter than US Marines or British Paratroopers (Taliban vs Paras will be coming in .9 with Sangin). |

Also, the fact that the locals know the terrain alot better is hard to simulate in a game where everyone on both teams have played the maps before and know most of the things about them. Giving them more stamina is, in my opinion, a good compromise since the greatest advantage they have IRL is one they lack in PR.

Remember that in 0.8 regular army had 20 sec sprint and insurgents had 30 sec.
In 0.85 regular army got 10 seconds extra but i don“t know if insurgents also got another 10 sec. Got to see ingame to find out. Also remember that we constantly run (10km/h) everywhere. Sprint is 18km/h and only olympic runners can run in that pace for hours. |

-OT I agree with this suggestion, because the collaborator doesn't carry much at all, be he runs like an a Marine with a SRAW on his back. I don't know if it is possible though.

Ought to go to that camp for some personal fitness training
As of right now, aren't the sprints the same for US/GB and the Insurgents? M. |
