Default Jabal - road from west beach

"Right, we've secured west beach and Battallion says East beach is taken also. Now it's time to push wih our light armour up inland. Our next objective seems to be... ...the bridge far to the east. Either we go swimming or we take the road. Let's take the road."
5 minutes later the column passes through MEC main and is kicked.

Earlier when flags/FOBs spawned trucks/hmmwees this was just rediculous. You had to drive on the main road via MEC main if you were going to use those assets elsewhere on the map. Now this problem is only relevant for the LAVs. You could argue that if you capture west beach with the help of a LAV, then the LAV could go via water to west beach and then towards bridge.

But why on earth is west beach a flag when it is not really a bridgehead?

Different solutions:

1) let the mainroad pass just south of MEC main so that a LAV heading for the bridge/town doesn't go through the base

2) Make a bridge further west so that you can get to the road going up towards dam without going through the town.

3) Remove west beach

Contra:
- But you can go offroad, bypassing mec main
-> yes, and it's really stupid that you have to do that...
- You don't need a bridge, it's amphibious
-> Again, having to take weird routes and turns is kind of ruining the experience. The natural routes should be possible. Put in another bridge, and you get a new natural route.

There is an entrance by the Dam, I believe. And... HMMVVS? Couldn't follow the first part...

Its possible to drive up from West beach to the Western end of the Bridge in the Lav's, its a fairly common tactic-I'll see if i can flick out a quick video to show you - give me an hour .

a) you can swim in ocean
b) you can climb up on a hill at west beach and get to dam
c) you can drive half route to mec main then swim through channel to dam
d) you can drive half route to mec main then swim through channel to Jabal and then south bridge/east beach
e) you can bypass mec main behind it, not on the road
and only then through mec main on road

maybe then we should put railroads and put every vehicle on it, so we "dont ruin experience"? this is exact reason why military vehicles have off-road/amphibious capabilities, so you're not stickied like a friggin train to high-ways and bridges
and how not following road ruins experience? i just dont get it
you should adapt to environment, not the map to you

I think the idea behind this map (for US) is the following mission:

- Make a landing and capture the town of Jabal.

First you need to make the landings. The planners have chosen two beaches. Next the marines can't head straight for the town because MEC-controlled mountains would open the flanks and make an advance very vulnerable. So the marines need to secure the mountains.
From east beach there is a fairly obvious route to south bridge. For the guys that captured west beach there is not. The videos Shavid posted shows a LAV-driver with exstensive local knowledge, probably far surpassing that of the the inhabitants of Jabal.

As people play maps more and more times they eventually find secret ways to get from A to B. Both routes that's supposed to be possible routes and routes that should not. I don't think the military commanders depends on such experience in their plans. Now that we don't get to spawn vehicles at the beaches anymore*, the determining question is whether a driver unfamiliar to the terrain would choose the route shown in video 2 rather than staying on the road and head for the bridge north of the town.

*They did in previous versions of PR

Thanks for the videos Shavid.

I never fully understood the "Jabal Order" either; why can't I attack that Bridge from the East (or that city, even?) without the dam?

Yeah I made a thread about it a while ago.

It would make alot more sense if the first 2 flags to take were Dam and East beach, then South bridge, then jabal, then West Beach, then MEC main - the idea being that the West beach is the direct supply route to the Mec main

I think keeping the current flag order is fine, just one adjustment being that the Dam and South Bridge both be capture-able at the same time, giving the US a little more flexibility in their assault inland.

So the order would be:

1. West Beach
1. East Beach

2. Dam
2. South Bridge

3. Jabal Proper

4. North Bridge

... with flags having the same number being capture-able at the same time.
