I voted for 5. As to what concerns how the main should look like, just make the main similar to the present one. Voila.

5 would be good, as long as there is a force field around it to prevent ppl from shooting in (and out), as there is not room to place a properly built and properly defendable main base.

I would have said 5 but then its too close to INS main. How about just to the west of where it is now in that open area by the main road. You could make it into a big VCP or somthing?

i vote leave it as it is, and #5

how?

simple, make a 32 layer with the US main out of the city and the ins main moved up north somewhere (or the mosque)

the idea could be that the US took some hard hits at their old main (the current one) so they moved to the outskirts and built a new main (for the alt game layer)

*note* people may have noticed i like suggesting layers.

I vote to either keep the same unless you can comehow extend the map out further south and put #5 down there. If you put the US main where #5 is, then you are basically eliminating any good fighting in the palace and any underground fights in the Palace basement. Also, the archers in the city are easy ways to spam the US main from if it was put in that spot.

Think about it, having a 4 story archway with RPGs is an easy spam spot for insurgents from there.

IMO, the current US main is fine, but it just needs a bigger and more powerful dome of death that kills quicker. Spot #5 is a good spot, but it would really only work if the map was extended further south and it was placed like 3-500M from the Palace/Mansion and archways. If that happened, it would be a really good spot because it is surrounded by desert, making it harder for insurgents to attack.

Animal.Mother... only problem with layers, is no maps put 32 layer in rotation, so even though its in the mod, it will be played less than 5% of the time... which basically changes nothing

That and the perimeter would still need to be there and bits would still need to look like a base when it wasn't a base in one layer.

well i only ever play on RT and TG, both of which use all layers, 16, 32 and 64.

but because some servers dont use it doesn't mean the option should be denied for others.

just my opinion

and rhino i dont quite get what you're getting at, but taking my idea further then for the alternative the old base could be edited to look a bit battered? holes in walls, wrecks and stuff. would make for an interesting compound to clear.

1 is away from the city and gives the insurgents better chances of placing ambushes and traps to the city

I voted 5 for the purpose of realism, I don't think that the US would ever establish a main base area in a position so clearly in the center of the city area, they're usually outside it. Also I feel that 5 would be a great place for a road-block type position which would be entirely realistic in terms of the maps context.

That and the firefights up in the north west of the map are great.

I do think that the insurgent main would then need moving to the opposite end of the map somewhere around where the current US main is.
