The effect is not meant to simulate exactly what you'd see if you were shot.
The problem is: In a video game, you only have two ways of output from the game: Visual and auditive. So how could one simulate pain? Just an "argh" sound? That might be realistic, but it won't stop the player from fighting just like before. Since you only can change these two things, it's logical that you'll reduce the most relevant one - vision. Be that darkness, black/white, teargas/drunken effect or blood does not really matter for the outcome. Neither is really realistic, but they all stop you from just fighting like before. Also, people associate blood with pain, logically. So if you see blood on your screen, you know that your in-game 'character' (not really a character in this case, but w/e) would be feeling pain right now, so it's a good choice in my opinion. Of course you could just put a black overlay on the screen, but people, especially newcomers, would probably be confused if that's the suppression effect now or whatever. As it is, you have two things: Black: Under fire, take cover Red: Injured, seek medic |

Also, what happened to the black and white effect? I know someone mentioned they experienced it in .86, but I still haven't. I remember it happening alot more often in previous versions. | |

how about making it so your vision fades in and out or blurry, color loss, and make the sound muffled, and be restricted in some movement depending where you got shot, instead of that bloody screen effect

Maybe we could use blur instead. And if we could make the blur move around a bit that would get rid of people shooting back when suppressed.
On a sidenote I do not get the black and white either. |

I have a bug where the entire screen goes black when i should be seeing the *coughing* wounded screen. Complete blindness is obviously a serious handicap. Trust me, I would swap for the intended wounded screen any day so its not that bad lol.
It does seem to be only on certain maps though (or maybe its another factor, not had the chance to study it). Either way I cant look into it anymore as my card died yesterday...the joys of ATI. |

I think the blood is a good way to make you more ineffective as being shot in real life would too. But I also think all the screams are a little too much.
I have also experienced the black and white effect twice in V.86. . . . (1) When I was shot about three times and somehow lived to soon bleed to death. and (2)Just after i was revived. I believe you have to have extremely low health. |

I like the idea of making you less combat effective but its really unrealistic but im fine with it.

i'd rather just have something a little less... making me want to puke... it's a lot better than the original blood screen but still......
._. any chance we could have the "dull down your vision" version? like where it's just getting darker and darker...? |
