Default Jumping guzzles my stamina :(

Dunno if this is normal but when im running into a firefight and go to jump a wall i get a sped up sprint animation (without moving position) and my stam drops by 50%.

bug? penalty to deter people from jumping around like they do in CS?

I'm fine with the loss of stamina to stop kids jumping around like idiots but the animation i get prevents me from firing which is just silly. regardless of my stamina i should still be able to lie down and fire.

-It's a feature, one that I disagree with, but not a bug. The animation added after jumping is what deters people from jumping, not the loss of stamina(Especially when jumping is a necessity on urban maps. Those curbs can be tricky....)

-The animation you're referring to as "silly" is there exactly because you're not supposed to be able to fire for a short amount of time after jumping or getting up from crouch. Regardless of your stamina you are still able to jump, the animation is there to simulate the time it takes to actually be able to do something after jumping, and it deters retardo-players from bunny hopping because the only outcome of such a tactic is the inability to return fire and a face full of bullets.

ah righty, perhaps a different anim would be more fitting, like a portion of the "standing from prone" animation or the "reload" anim. just the bit after the mag has been swapped out.

Perhaps a solution would be alter the maps so they have fewer unnecessary obstacles that players have to jump over (few things irritate me like having to jump thereby using up my stamina and exposing myself without being able to fire back just to get over an object I could easily step over in RL).

And yes, that includes curbs: would it be so bad to at least make them slanted so players don't get stopped by them?

In my experience, people usually bunnyhop to (unrealistically) avoid fire until they can take cover; the loss of stamina and temporary inability to shoot merely prevent them from then sprinting for cover if they're out in the open and shoot back (as is so annoyingly typical in vanilla BF2).

Now, here's the big question for me: why not just remove the ability to jump at all?

(Implies modifying maps so you don't need to jump onto/over objects, including vehicles.)

Now that would be realistic! (Let's face it, soldiers don't usually jump onto/over stuff in RL; they may occasionally climb onto/pivot over obstacles but jumping with all that gear? Not a chance.)

Yes, I know. Change the maps so the limitations aren't an issue; then you can get rid of the unrealistic jump feature.

The funny thing is bunny hopping in PR does nothing to stop you getting hit (Maybe a increase of 3% not hitting) but by running in different patterns and even stopping then backwards has saved me soo many times.

i have a slight issue with this. i got chased off a ladder on the top of a roof today. I had a PKM and my opponant had an L86. but i had to do a full bloomin brass check and all he had to do was a mag reload.

i am totally against bunnys, but what about ladders and coaxial guns? Do we really need to do a brass check or mag load when we get off a ladder? maybe this could be looked into?

edit: i sort of know the answer to this is obvious, and having a small bad thing out weighs having a big bad thing. but can this rule be excluded from certain situations. (part of me thinks that there would be exploits)

I agree with the fact that jumping should be discouraged but on urban maps it's really silly because you have to jump to get over 3 inches of curb...

I don't know how we could fix that but maybe lowering the curbs at some places would be nice, or adding (dunno if possible) a small jump that wouldn't affect your stamina so much. Just my 2 cents!
