Im running Windows Vista 64 bit and got
- Autodesk 3DS Max 9 32 bit - Autodesk 3DS Max 2009 32 bit - Autodesk 3DS Max 2009 64 bit - Autodesk 3DS Max 8 - Autodesk 3DS Max 2010 And i still cant open any .3ds files!? Any help? When i try to open .3ds file, it starts 3ds max 9 and just gives the following error "DLL <C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\3ds Max9\stdplugs\Dxplugins\DxDDS.bmi> Failed to initialize. Error Code : 998." Im really trying to learn how to model and this just focks it up :S |

Thats odd, as 3ds files are normally backwards compatible. Where did this .3ds file come from?
3dsmax9 / Vista problems http://forums.cgsociety.org/archive/index.php/t-472293.html Could be your issue? |

Just install SP2 pack and it should work fine (install the pack in the same language as your "licence")

make sure your exporting the model as a .3ds and not just saving it as a scene then trying to open/export it in the other versions.
I made this dumb mistake >.> |
