Arrow [Help] Trick with the BF2 editor in vista

UPDATED FIX! (probably not working, was worth a shot though)
So, i've been doing a lot of research, a lot of process analysis, esp. of photoshop, and what windows services it starts, what .dll's, what registry entrys it changes. I did most of this with Warecase eXtended Task manager, it came in really handy (no i dont work for them)

anyways to get to the fix:

This Fix is for people who use Windows Vista/Win 7

1. press the start button and search for comctl32.dll in the search bar
you'll should see one result, the dll itself.

2. copy it.

3. Then paste it into C:\Windows\system\

4. Reboot your PC

Notes:
doesnt matter if this folder is empty, you might find a d3dx9_38.dll there, thats there for compatibility with older DX9 games.

Details:
The comctl32.dll is a User Experience Controls Library. Under Windows Vista it is located somewhere else than in Windows XP, therefore the BF2 Editor in XP compatibility mode won't find it where it should be (Windows\System). So this is not a photoshop service but a windows dll, it just happened that photoshop activates taht dll...

Let me know if it works! (it might've only worked for me!)

(apparently this only works if you already have photoshop installed)

OLD SOLUTION:

Now i dont know if this bug applies to anyone with vista, but it does happen to me, and i found a really (random?) solution to it:

cheers!

I always assumed Vista needed a certain amount of resources in use to function properly with the Editor, but never got far in my "research". This should help a lot of Vista map editors, thank you.

"Research" basically jotting random facts down in Notepad, and leaving them to collect dust on the hard drive.

For me (Even in compatibility mode), I just click on the mod (I've tried BF2 and PR), and it just crashes/shuts down. I don't know if these problems are linked in some way. Any suggestions?

Vista is not gay. It is the bf2 editor being gay. I have used other and older game editing editors and they worked fine with vista.

This didnt work for me, although I opened a file in GIMP, not photoshop...

Having the same issue though with objects not updating as you drag them... frustrating the say the least...

the entire idea was to open a PHOTOSHOP document

apparently Photoshop opens some hidden windows mouse frameworks whatevernot.

obviously it wont work in Gimp

EDIT: i'm sure some of you dev friends can hook you up with Photoshop
