your render looks a bit unsharp. Try changing your antialiasing filter off the default "Area" to "Catmull-Rom" if you are using 3Ds Max. Found under "Renderer" tab in the render settings dialog box.

And if you are using 3ds max and when you save the file as jpg, make sure you put the smoothing at 0, otherwise it makes everything blurry.

Wonder if anyone can help
http://www.easternfront.org/uploads/Tim270/prob1.jpg I always run into this problem when having polies welded on cylinders, any ideas on how the poly construction should be in this? |

yeah that is a smoothing problem allright, further up the cylinder you got a smoothing group error too.
