Default To the PR Modelers.

When you guys model your guns and vehicles how do you model it? Do you use reference pictures and try to eyeball it and just model it? Or do you make a mesh from a picture or something and go on from there?

In XSI, When I want to create some thing accurate such as a rifle I find a "side" picture and use rotoscope which allows me to place a picture onto one of my perspective windows. From there I use curves and create a outline then I make it into a mesh and from there i go on to adding details and so forth.

This technique usually works for me. But I was wondering how do you guys do it?
