wtf? I have no idea where you could get that. It might not match YOUR definition of "reality" within a *GAME* but there has never been anything but a continuing increase in our attempts to bring realism into the mod the way WE define it. Again that might not match what YOU want, but there has never been any shift in focus.

In fact quite the opposite, 95% of the dev team are not happy with the server side modding and the short spawn servers because they tend to appeal to folks who like BF2 style play rather than folks who like tactical shooter style play. So in v0.6 we will not be supporting much in the way of configuration deviations and I am pretty sure we'll shed 30% of the player population as a result.

That's not the direction we want to head in. America's Army is a decent game for that sort of one life per round kind of play. Same price as PR too

What we want to move toward is rounds that are .. by vBF2 standards .. "epic" in length, replayability, depth and enjoyment *for milsim oriented tactical combined arms fans*.

The stuff we released in v0.5 was part of a larger plan to overhaul the spawn mechanics. The stuff in v0.6 is the remaining elements of that. Those contribute into plans we have for v0.7 that will (hopefully) bring a very new style of play to the BF platform. All of those are geared around making rounds longer but still compelling and very unpredictable even when playing the same map / mode over and over again. And the v0.7 stuff fits into more ethereally defined ideas we have.

But none of our focus is around one life per round style deathmatch game modes.

Need to have an FAQ about that... comes up a lot, but we have to focus our efforts and that is not where we have chosen to focus them.

Cheers!

I have been supporting PROS since day one! I am definitly on your side with this and have been begging through out this thread not to be misinterpreted as putting this mod down. My concern is in the amount of changes being made and there relation to reality in the latest patches. I am hearing complaints like snipers taking a bullet and returning fire dead on etc... a bullet still kills right regardless what gun it comes out of or has this been changed to balance the sniper kit with the rest of the system? I honestly dont know? And could be easily misinformed.

But the lead mappers reply to my query about making death and disability more realistic in game is not to promising! I know were all happy about the new spawn point abilities and asking now after all this work not to have them might seem a little disappointing but there are players like me who honestly do prefer a lose and pay the price type game. If that means AA so be it I guess. But a long respawn period like what is in PROS is a great alternative, and I can think of other ways of dealing with this too that might be a great combonation of the two.

I am sure your plan is sound, but to me it is very vague which is fine, I have no need to know the plan. I just hope in the end it is a "milsim oriented tactical combined arms" game that reflects reality as much as the engine will allow and not make compromises for the fun of it in game play. Thats all I am trying to say and to date there have been no dissapointments. The improvment over vanilla BF2 is unreal!

Happy player and PR server owner here!
LOL just trying to keep it real!

I have read a few threads, all I can say from my point of view, the Mod is going in the right direction, [DEV]team doing a awsome job!!
The mod is not perfect, in a good way . . . . .
I only mean . . it gives more openings for great ideas, other angle to improve the gameplay e.t.c
"Thinking out of the Box" it a good creativity tool all can use. . . it makes me "going up from my bed" every morning and I call it in a other word.
"Hope"

//Drygar , take care all . . . Derkka!

I agree. I think we will all (eventually) come to agree with your views and changes. We appreciate all thats been done and all that is to come. I think we all know that the DEVs want to get as close to reality as possible, but within reason...
I like how you will consider a PR lite of some sort, and I think a Practice Server code would be nice, seeing as a lot of people use it to get kits and practise flying, etc. But, in the end, it IS your mod, and I will go along with anything you deem fit.
Anyway, looking forward to .6 with everything I've got!

I see what you Dev.s are saying about server side mods but I think that even the most dedicated of player will want to change maps a little more often sometimes. Some rounds last for nearly an hour and can be a little frustrating sometimes (for example the map where the US must use helis/boats to infiltrate a costal town and are continually raped by AA and AT fire all round and everyone ends up leaving the server on both sides).

How much flexibility are you planning to give to server admins exactly? Or is this something still being discussed?

Also a couple of random questions while I'm here. Firstly are more seats being planned for the Merlin because it seems like you could get far more in? Secondly are there any plans to force Aircraft to land to reload? In my opinion it would suit the mod very well and encourage more tactical use rather then people being free to engage whatever whenever because all they have to is make a quick pass over the airfield. Sorry If I've been grossly ignorant with any of this because I'm pretty new to the mod and sorry if I've added to an overwhelming amount of questions you guys are getting asked.

We would never prevent admins from altering the map list... we're talking about 10s spawns or modifying the vehicle respawn timers.

Not yet added more seats to the Merlin ( the max allowable is 8 ). Need to figure out some other issues wrt planes re-arming before we can make major changes there.

Cheers!

@Egg:

By 0.7 do you think you willbe able to replace the US team with the UK on Al Basara. THis being becuase of the possible addition of the C2, with the Warrior, merlin, saxon already in, there is the apache question, but becuase i have quite a few shots of an almost finished model, i guess it should be ready for 0.7, so UK fighting in Al Basara by 0.7 ...............?????
