Why are you using a BT speedtouch when you are on AOL? AOL send out ready to use routers iirc. | |

Is your Wireless router being shared by anyone else? (even possibly unknown to you?)
200-300ms within the country simply ain't good at all. As solid84 says, A traceroute would be better... it'll let us know if the trouble is "local", "first hop in", at the destination, or somewhere in between. You might want to disable the "wireless" interface, just in case you happen to have someone "sharing" your connection without your knowledge. - JM40. |

Your problem is local.
67 to 99 ms just to get to the router sitting next to you in your house. 1) Check for a bad cable. Replace cable. 2) Check for bad port. Change to different LAN port on your router (if it has one). 3) Check using another system in your place (laptop), etc.. using same cable and/or port. Eliminate whichever one "the problem follows" 4) Shot in the dark: Check full/half duplex settings (networking->right click->properties->ethernet card->advanced), perhaps they are mismatched. 5) Reboot the router. 6) Go DIRECT to the Internet - i.e. plug your system directly into the feed from BT/AOL/xDSL/CM/what-have-you. That should be enough things to try... Troubleshooting 101 here; and you're generally better STARTING at "Layer 1" (physical layer) rather than worrying about TCP optimizers etc. at this point =) You said you also have a laptop connected (via the wireless), what do you see from a traceroute from it? - JM40. |

BTW here's a sample "good" traceroute, and some ms time responses you *should* be seeing:
Code:
admin@MacMini:~> traceroute google.ca Selected device en0, address 10.10.102.4, port 52902 for outgoing packets Tracing the path to google.ca (74.125.53.103) on TCP port 80 (http), 30 hops max 1 10.10.102.2 0.734 ms 0.347 ms 0.648 ms 3 rd1no-ge3-0-0-17.cg.shawcable.net (64.59.142.131) 23.839 ms 7.671 ms 7.830 ms 4 rc1no-pos10-0.cg.shawcable.net (66.163.71.133) 9.605 ms 19.638 ms 7.702 ms 5 rc2so-tge0-0-1-0.cg.shawcable.net (66.163.77.9) 19.091 ms 8.772 ms 11.059 ms 6 rc2wh-pos0-15-5-0.vc.shawcable.net (66.163.76.186) 51.772 ms 24.275 ms 27.815 ms 7 rc4wt-pos14-0-0.wa.shawcable.net (66.163.76.130) 26.012 ms 26.034 ms 37.354 ms 8 74.125.48.233 27.715 ms 37.788 ms 35.269 ms 9 209.85.249.34 28.911 ms 28.768 ms 25.781 ms 10 216.239.46.212 32.754 ms 36.499 ms 32.927 ms 11 216.239.48.167 33.301 ms 56.144 ms 43.838 ms 12 72.14.232.70 34.490 ms 35.217 ms 36.021 ms |
