Need MoBo + CPU advice please.

Hello,

I'm planning on changing my CPU, which implies a motherboard change as I wish to go to Intel.

Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions on which to get.

Main difficulty is I'm currently using an Acer EM61PM motherboard, and need a similar one so as to fit the casing.

As far as processors are concerned, I'd be looking for something I wouldn't have to upgrade too soon.

I'm afraid I cant give many more details, but I cant get my PC to give me any information...

At what shop do you want it to order? Since I'm not really familiar with French online shops.
And do you want Intel only? Does it has to be an nVidia chipset (for nVidia SLI) or do you rather have an Intel chipset (for crossfire with ATi cards)

Shop aint a big issue, as long as it's EU (last time I ordered something from US, it cost 40€ taxes, and it was only COD 5!).

Whereas for the manufacturer, I'm not quite sure (not a hardware gig )... What I can say is GPU is NVidia 9600GTX, if thats what you mean by your last sentence, so something compatible with that would be good

jus tried finding specs on your mobo but couldnt .



if not looking to spend much on a new cpu or mainboard go ebuyer.co.uk they have som nice cheep intel core 2 duo cpus if you look hard enough and also i got a ASUS p5N-E SLI for only £42 which is a good motherboard for tht price.

I would just get a dedicated video card and more ram - that's all you really need to get the performance boost........right now you're "driving a car on 2 gears only",there is 3 more gears you can switch- no need for a new engine to make it go faster.

Socket, I aint using default graphics and RAM, but NVidia 9600GTX 512 MB (see 3rd post) and have added 2 gig of RAM, which is why I am aiming for the processor now. I am actually considering going for the I7 @2.66GHZ (the cheapest), but aint too sure about the MoBo.. any suggestions?

I'd rather get a Phenom II 945/955 instead of a i7 920...
And do you mean a 9600GT or a 9800GTX?

I would get a asus m4 series mobo and a Phenom II 945 which i have now.This cpu flies off the roof for sure.

Forgot to say, but you could also go for a X3 720.

@monkey: It reads 9600GTX on the box, but I guess it's 9600GT.
