Default crash to desktops and probs with TS and voip

hey guys!

i got two problems.
the first one is about crash to desktops that suddenly appeared today. it may already happen after 30 sec or after 30min. i already had that problem 4 months ago and after i had searched 5 days for a solution the crash to desktops stoped. neither i know why they stoped nor i know why they started. i didn't change anything on my system, there were no updates and i didn't (un)install anything.

the second exists since i think PR version 0.75.
when i join a server and got TS running in 4 off 5 cases my VoiP doesn't work. instead of my voice the SQmates only hear screaching. but if i close TS while joining and start it when loading finished i dont have any problems. when i leave the server then and join another one it doesn't matter if TS is running while joining the server.
sometimes its converse, voip works but TS is fu§$ed up but that happens only veryvery infrequent.
in both cases i already tried everything from newinstalling to checking the sounddrivers. nothing worked.
any ideas?

Please post:
systems specs (MoBo, GFX, Audio, generally hardware)

for the ctd: get the patched exe file
http://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-...s-v0-85-a.html
and/or manually update punkbuster (http://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-...ml#post1004244)

for the f'd up sound:
have you tried reinstalling TS?

I have the same problem with crashing to the desktop, on both of my computers.

The one I'm on now and pretty much always play on:
AMD Athlon 3000+ 2.0 ghz
ATI ALL-IN-WONDER 9600
512 MB of Ram

One is a Dell XPS 410:
Intel Core 2 CPU 6300 1.86GHz(2 CPUs)
1 Gig of Ram
NVidia 7300 LE(512 MB)<-Onboard Video

Also, I crash to the desktop randomly, it could be 15 minutes in, an hour, or three.

The patched exe helped a lot with the 512 mb computer, it loads faster, less lock ups, and just smoother all around. I'm going to try it on my Dell. The help is much appreciated!!!

Thank you

On my Dell XPS, I'm still CTD'ing. I join a server, like 10 seconds in it happens. I tried single player, same exact result.

your computers' ram does not suffice the minimum system requirements of PR

your probably running out of memory and should have an aweful performance
that onboard memory (probably "shared memory") could be killing you there on the dell since you effectively only get 512 mb RAM and double the traffic on the bus (there is your chance to upgrade with a new gfx card and ram)

close down unneeded program/task and try around with different drivers (sometimes older ones bring a better performance than the new ones - look around in the internet for which driver is recommended for your gfxs (maybe this one can help: NVIDIA & Laptop News | Latest NVIDIA drivers and related news | laptopvideo2go.com))

hardware! now i think i found my prob :P i use an onboardsoundchip. i'll try with a soundcard one of these days!

2Gig Ram, graka: Gforce 8600 GTS, MoBo... eh.. good question :P , and an intel core2 1,8 GHz

concerning CTDs: its not punkbuster i had many probs with this ?=§$"§$ program but its not to blame for the CTDs this time. i had no time to try the fixed BF2.exe but thanks for advice anyway.

and sound: oh yes... i reinstalled it i think quite 20 times :P
how already said the bad boy is most likely the soundchip and i'll try a soundcard tomorrow or when i finaly have some time :P

On my Dell XPS, the problem was there were multiple video card drivers installed. On the Add/Remove Programs list, there was a gig's worth. I uninstalled them, installed the driver that you gave me, and now everything runs smoothly. I've yet to try PR with it, but I'm pretty sure it will run fine, I was running Left 4 Dead with a smooth 30 fps on normal textures with 1024x768.

As far as the desktop I'm on now, I'm able to play PR, but the computer lag still happens, I can't afford to upgrade now, so I guess I'll just have to play with the computer lag. I should be able to buy a new one in about a month and a half though.
