It is possible (read some time ago, that some guy had a GTX 260 216 in SLI running on his Antec Earthwatts 500W, but it wasn't really stable and more of a test for him, although it did worked, but it isn't recommended.) A 600/ 650Watt PSU (of a good company) would do the job perfectly (and there would still be some room left), but 850Watt PSU is just pure overkill.

Well, that only counts for SLI. If you want to go with a single card for now, the 500 Watt PSU should do. (could you perhaps tell us from which company the PSU is?)

the psu is unbranded so i couldnt tell you the name, but i think i might as well buy a new one, firstly i wanted to single gpu the system due to funds running out but by nex pays check i want to buy the second gpu to sli my system so i think i might asz well go for a higer psu something like a coolermaster 600psu perhaps?

and also what operating system should i install:-

windows xp, windows vista, or should i hold out for the release of windows 7?

The CM620 Real Power Pro is a good PSU.

Well, I'm still sticking to XP so far, because I didn't felt the need to get a different OS, so I don't know how the other 2 operating systems perform.

Vista is good if you have 4GB of ram, but I prefer XP over it.

ok just an update of my final list ive decided to go for a bigger cpu

amd quad core phenom II 920 black edition 45nm

the power supply i have chose is:-

750W 80+ Dual 12v V2.2 HE PSU from dabs.com very good price and fits in budget so opted to go for this

and monitor wise im going for:-

Viewsonic 19" gaming monitor VX1940 widescreen 2ms DVI 16:10(S023811)
this monitor wasnt first choice but its on offer now so thought what the heck might as well seems ok enough

and also i have deicided to stay with windows xp for the moment already have the cd for it xp pro sp3 and wait till windows 7 officiol is released then get that

just 1 more week to go before i get paid from work then hopefully going to pucrhase all these in one go and start building will post pics once i have ordered and they arrive

ps im not going to buy the graphics card just yet going to wait for my next pay check as ive been doing the math and cant afford to go any further than my budget as got bills to pay this month, so when next pay comes in going to just buy 2x 260 gtx's and sli them straight away, any comments or tips will be helpfull thanks.

I think you mean Phenom II 940, or maybe the Phenom II 720 instead of the Phenom II 920 (which isn't black edition). Either way, they are all good processors which you will not regret buying (I have a 940).
