clicking multiplayer tab= CTD?

For some reason i ctd whenever i click on the 'multiplayer' tab in the main menu. The game launches fine, i have it start in windowed mode. when it ctd, there is no error message, and so far i am dumbfounded. reinstalling doesn't work, i only have a gig of RAM so all the settings are turned down, and im also using the bf2.exe which unlimits ram usage. any ideas, folks?

When asking for help,
please remember to post your:
O/S,
systems specks,
network setup
And a brief history before and after problem started.
Please describe when your CTD or problem hits and
what you have already tried.

Get more ram
XP Likes 2 gigs
vista 4 gigs
You need to use org. BF2.exe,
not the unlocked one.
Use the unlocked .EXE only if you have 2+ gigs of real ram
Other things you can try:

Trash your BF2 cache files
Path:
C:\Users\'your user name here'\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

Throw EVERYTHING inside the folder named cache away.
don't worry the files will be replaced with new ones when the game restarts.
Still CTD?

Make a new user and try to join a server.
Don't worry about your settings yet, battlefield cleaner can transfer old
settings to the new one later.

If all else fails backup your bf2 folder inside your 'documents' folder, then delete the original.
restart game
link to your online account
join server
