Hey all, looking for some new RAM in my next upgrade.
Thinking its most likly best getting rid of all my old RAM since I only have 4 slots for RAM on my mobo, and right now I have 4x 1gb sticks of DDR2 667MHz/PC2-5300 RAM, where my mobo can support upto 800MHz/PC2-6400 so it makes seance to me to simply get rid of all my old RAM and start from fresh, since to use any of my old RAM, I first would have to scrap a bunch of it anyways and then I would need to buy some 2 or more sticks of 2GBs or w/e at 667MHz... Please some one say if its not a good idea to scrap my old stuff thou but looking at going for 8GBs of RAM anyways. So ye, like I just said, looking for 8gbs of RAM total, thou 6gbs would be fine for now too but it is most likely best to get it all at once Dont want to spend any more than £100 on RAM, the lower the better, but want it to be pretty decent thou no need to be top notch, OCed stuff. Looking at possibly getting these: Corsair 4GB Kit (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 Memory Kit CL5 1.9V - Ebuyer They seem to be very popular on ebuyer, 83 reviews and 5 start rating, in my price range and seem to do the job Again, would prefer to buy from ebuyer more than anywhere else, thou would be ok to buy from scan.co.uk too. Memory - Desktop - Ebuyer Cheers! |

OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC6400 Titanium Memory CL4(4-4-4-15) - Ebuyer
would suggest these £10 more but slightly faster, in timings. Depends on your budget really . Haven't had a problem with my 8gbs but they are 1066 but still OCZ. oh and faster ram, always want faster ram and more, and chocolate |

Faster speeds does help, nothing to do really with OCing... Only when you start ocing does it mean more yer granted but to non ocers 1066 RAM will always be better at most tasks than 667 otherwise what is the point>?

Is there any point in going for 8gb yet? Running 4gb at the moment and appears to be more than enough.

But ye, if your just running games etc, dont think there is much reason for more than 4gbs, unless your doing lots of video editing or anything like that. Bare in mind, a 32bit system like XP can only support upto 3gbs of ram which I'm sure you are aware of | |

32 bit isnt as cut and dry as that like, but yer...
8gb is great for multi tasking and yer accessing large amounts of memory hogish apps... My photoshop uses upto 5Gb of RAM if it needs it, which it sometimes does.... |
