Game won't boot

Hi I just bought BF2 yesterday and downloaded PR today.. but now when I have installed everything the game just won't start.

It just gets black screen 2-3 sec then back to desktop and no error messages or whatsoever.
Googled alot but could'nt find any solution.

Please help!

Core 2 duo 2,4ghz
4gb RAM
Nvidia geforce 9600GT

Are you running XP or VISTA

First of all, when it goes black after 2-3 seconds, are you running PR or BF2?

Make sure you installed BF2, patched it to v1.41 and then install PR, with a restart between each step.

Make sure you install Project reality core THEN Levels, you need both in that order

Im running Vista.

I installed PR before the patch.. will that i be a problem?

Yes, it is a problem - you must install and fully patch BF2 first. After that, if PR still isn't starting, open the properties of your PR shortcut and change the

+fullscreen 1

to

+fullscreen 0

in the command line. Now start PR - it'll give you an error message, post it here and then we'll figure something out.

Also note, I had a lot of trouble getting the BF2 1.41 patch to work properly. BF2 and PR would work before installing BF2 1.41 but once I updated it would say it completed properly but would result in black screen shut offs over and over again.

Eventually I just ran the 1.41 patch about 10 times in a row completely leaving my PC running ONLY the patcher. No iTunes, no internet windows, NOTHING but the patch. That fixed it up for me...

But yeah, patch first, then client CORE then client LEVELS.

Check to make sure your FULL update 1.41
worked and did update your game.
To find your version of BF2
run PR in 'windowed' mode
(instead of running in full screen, it runs in a 'window')
To do so
Modify the text in your shortcut's 'target' window.

Change
+fullscreen 1
to
+fullscreen 0

Then start PR.

Look at the upper left corner
you should see
v.1.1.2965-797.0

Before you go online to join a server
you should:

1. Download pbsvc
2. Start pbsvc installer, you should see options for install, uninstall, test.
3. Run the Uninstaller, then delete the PB folder to remove any leftover files.
4. Restart your computer.
5. reinstall punk buster files with pbsvc( if your using Vista DO NOT set compatibility to XP, run as admin ok)
6. After pcsvc installs, click the "test" option to check the punk buster install you just did.
5. Make sure it comes back "all green"
6.Download pbsetup(pbsvc DOES NOT install pbsetup.
If your using Vista DO NOT set compatibility to XP, run as admin ok)
7.Create a pbsvc installer shortcut AND pbsetup program shortcut on your desktop.
8.Run pbsetup (from the shortcut on your desktop) add BF2 to the games list, then hit update."

(pbsvc installs the punk buster 'engines' or applications.
PBsetup installs the files/gas the 'engines run)


UPDATE YOUR FIREWALL

Make sure your firewall has permission for:

BF2.EXE
PBSETUP.EXE
(search for your location)

PNKBSTRA.EXE
path:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW64\PNKBSTRA.EXE
or (not 100% sure but for 32 bit O/S I think it's)C:\WINDOWS\SYSWOW32\PNKBSTRA.EXE
