Hey guys been seeing a lot of posts for the blue screen of death, so i did some research on what it is, how it happens, and ways to work around it, or fix it.
It is mainly caused by a system failure when the computer detects a piece of hardware or software is not working properly. It will just simply shut down everything it is doing. Now sometimes a simple reboot can fix this problem and you may never see it again, but mostly you will see it again. Now there is no "simple" way of fixing this problem. If you ever get error codes with the BSOD please write them down and do a bit of research on what could cause it. 1A: Diagnosing- 1. Now if you are still getting BSOD in safe mode then this means you most LIKLEY have a hardware issue. If you have ruled out the possibility of it being a hardware issue then check for viruses. 2. Do a virus scan in safe mode, if anything comes up take care of it, delete it then restart and see if that has helped at all. 3. If you are still getting BSOD if windows safe mode, this is a most definite hardware issue. To double check this, if you have purchased any new hardware take it out and boot your computer with out it and see if you are still getting it 4. Obtain a windows diagnostic from another computer and boot the computer that is having problems with the info on the floppy disk/cd. And if any errors appear then you might need to buy new momory. To learn how to do a memtest or windows diagnostic go here: Microsoft Online Crash Analysis 5. If you can, run windows back to normal mode and go back to a good restore point in system restore utility. This is all also capable of being done in safe mode too. 1B: Repairing- Big Step right here please follow below: 5. 1. Boot from the Windows XP installation CD 2. Choose the 'press enter to set up Windows XP now' option 3. Press F8 to skip through the EULA 4. Now press R to begin a repair installation After doing this you will need to re install all of your patches for windows and service packs as it will take them off. 6. If none of this has worked then you will need to do further troubleshooting. Do a bit of research online to see if there are any other solutions. 1C: Identifying any other hardware issues- 1. If you are still having problems with constant crashes or BSOD open your computer case and remove all non essential hardware. Only things that should be left are Mouse & keyboard Hard drive CD-Drive Video card Memory (And obviously the processor and power supply must still be connected also) Now you should be able to pin point what is causing your BSOD, If you are able to operate windows normally in safe mode then it might likley be a software or driver issue. Also understand how to do a checkdisk and repair http://vlaurie.com/computers2/Articles/chkdsk.htm Please ask if you have any questions and i will be glad to try and help you out and i hope this has helped a bit. |

If you have problem with BSOD, always post error codes. It will be much easier to help if you got them.
