Hi everybody!
Does anyone know a good free wireless network utility for windows? I'm freaking tired of using Windows in-build wireless zero configuration since anyone who have tried using that should know about that once per minute check thingy that lags down any online game. So using that anymore is not an option. And the one that came with my wireless network card (Linksys WUSB54GV) i thinkis one of the greatest phail i know since the software that comes shipped with it has a huge memory leak which can eat up some 3-400 megs of ram after having the computer running for some 4 days. And AFAIK Linksys havn't fixed it yet. So if you know a good one feel free to recommend it, would be much appreciated. |

I bought a noganet (generic) with a realtek chipset wi fi card, its the most cheap stuff in the market and has a GREAT soft (not frendly with who ignores about nets) that let you see everithing and controll a lot of stuff. it cost me less than 10 dollars (card + driver)
my experience says generic wi fi cards use all the same soft, and is a good soft for who knows about this stuff. on the other hand D-link cards are annoying and rather useless beeing are a mid-range company, having a "absolute fail but user frendly driver" wich looked good but was useless because it did not crushed windows original configuration and messed all the stuff arround. linksys makes really good card with good interface for advances and not so advanced users. great quality in routers but I did not used their cards. I go for the cheap ones if I were you, but if you are talking about games, BUY a peace of RJ45 wire, wire your pc with internet source, and dont mess arround with wi fi, its NOT reliable. |

I am using vista, and I had to chage to a USB wifi adapter.
I started getting these 60 second lagspikes, but fortunately I found a program that fixes them. I had to update my drivers for it to work, but that takes less than a minute. All you have to do is extract into a folder somewhere (I have it on the desktop for ease of access, but it doesn´t matter) and each time you turn the pc on/go to game just run it. Probably run as administrator if it doesn´t work normally. I can´t confirm your successes but it completely saved gaming on vista for me after I changed adapters. I have 0 problems with using wifi to game. WLAN Optimizer .NET |

@martov
Yeah the thing is, i allready have a Linksys wifi-adaptor and yes, the software is pretty good except that it has this huge memory leak that after a couple of days uses up som 400 megs of ram, also it messes up the windown login screen unless you get a certain fix for it. Also, yeah I'm considering getting a cable although it would have to be som 10m long, pass a number of doors and generaly be in the way, but still, it's a consideration (as i believe I have some other wireless issues) @alex6714 Yeah, i tried using a similar sollution for win XP (using that so WLAN optimizer wont work for me) in which you disable the wireless zero configuration service, but then my WLAN fuked up completely and gave me a huge ping from like 65 to 150-230. Anyone else have a good suggestion? |
