Default More RAM?

Hello
When i play PR I gets pretty choppy and laggy if I dont play on the lowest settings, which sucks. I got a quite old computer;

Pentium4 3.20GHz
Radeon x800 PRO/GTO(256mb)
1,00 GB RAM
Asus P4b533 - E motherboard

First I wanted to uppgrade my graphic card, but someone told me my motherbord was to old to use the latest cards. So I thought maybe uppgrading the memory would make a difference? I read some guide here on the forums that PR takes up about 1300mb of memory. That must mean I have way too little.

So do you think more ram would make a big difference? And can I get some suggestions on what RAM I should buy. Cheapest possible that's compatible with my old motherbord.
Thanks

Try adding another gig of RAM and see if that works. my new computer has 8gigs and run perfectly and I never get lag. try 1 if not 2 gigis more.

Ah, okey. But I looked online for what to buy, and there is a bunch of different brands and models to choose from. How do I know what works for my motherbord? Do I just walk up the the counter on the computer store and say; "Hello good sir. I would like to purchase 2 Gigabites of your finest ram please."?

looks like you need DDR RAM

While the i845E chipset itself does not support anything above DDR 266, there should be no problem with PC2700 or more. I am currently running Xtreme DDR PC3000 with no problems whatsoever.

Ok, so as far as I understand, something like this is what I'm looking for? Kingston KVR333X64C25K2/2G Memory 2G 333MHz DDR PC2700 kit 2 modules: Compare Prices, View Price History and Read Reviews at NexTag

Also I noticed theres no pricedifference between PC2700 and PC3200. Is PC3200 better?

Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it.

the max bandwidth supported by your MB is PC2700, so if you buy PC3200 it will just work as PC2700

OOps, It seems I made a misstake. My motherboard is in fact a p4p800. Which is a bit more modern I think. I used a program called everest to check what kind of ram i already in the computer, and it said;

DIMM1: Kingston K 512 MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM (3.0-3-3-8 @ 200 MHz) (2.5-3-3-7 @ 166 MHz) (2.0-2-2-6 @ 133 MHz)

So if I want to add 1gig on top of that, Does it need to be the same brand?
Also, does it have too be 2 more 512mb modules, or can I just add one 1gig module?

check what kinda ram you can add and fill the slots. sounds like you have ddr1 memory and that's piss cheap, check tradera.se. ram is important in pr. i have 2gb of the same kind you need (4 sticks of 512mb). they need to be the same speed and size to work best, i dunno about brands.

but that doesn't mean you can get a better card than the one you have. i had the same card as you and i brought a hd 3850 agp second hand (512mb). works great with pr.

the pentium 4 3.20ghz is perfect for pr if it's only one core (since bf2 can only use one core)

I checked out some reviews on that HD3850 card and it sounds really interesting. Hopefully I will find it second hand aswell.

About the RAM, when you say they need to be the same speed, what do you refer to? is it the "3200" in PC3200 that needs to be the same? or the mhz(which seems to be 400 in most modules online) I think this is what i'm looking for;

WEBHALLEN.com [Kingston DDR 1024MB PC3200 400MHz CL3]

...Unless that 400mhz part is a problem.

From the information I got from Everest it seems to be different values in mhz on my present ram; 200, 166 and 133. Which one is it I need to match?
