Default Incapable of long-distance accurate shots?

Hey guys,

This problem has plagued me for years in BF2, but with PR it's become more a problem with the range of shots and scoped shots that can be taken.

In short, my PC/Mouse (Both old and new) is incapable of making accurate shots at range. Whenever I just twitch the cursor so much so that it only moves 'once', it ends up so far away from it's previous position that I'm incapable of shooting large vehicles at range, as the mouse fixes points on either side of it, yet when I hop out and let someone else take the shot, they can do it with pinpoint accuracy.

Originally I thought it was my sensitivity and yaw factor settings, but after experimenting this wasn't the case.

So, I thought maybe it's my mouse? It was only a crappy TRUST one that came with the PC, and I thought perhaps it wasn't able to process the amount of pixels on my screen and so jumped to pre-set points. I bought a Logitech G3 2007 USB Gaming Mouse and no change; even when using the pre-set 2000dpi, 800dpi and 400dpi sensitivity settings - All that did was make my turn rate slower, and did nothing for this pixel-jumping aim problem.

I thought I'd just leave it, and enjoy the rest of the game, but as a result this means I'm incapable of any 'fun' roles, like tank gunners etc, because I can't take accurate shots. For example, we were the British on 7 Gates and I was gunning the APC in the swamp above the River Fort; Infantry was being pummelled by the emplacement up at the PLA base and I was ordered to take it out; I zoomed in, and adjusted my crosshair from it's off-left position in relation to the emplacement, and moved the mouse 1 fraction to the right; resulting in the cursor jumping to a tree about 5 metres to it's right. Consequently, we got blown up.

I honestly don't know the cause and it's beginning to frustrate me; could it be anything to do with loading PR with the widescreen extension of 1680x1050, combined with wide-screen fixer? (BF2 only goes up to 1280x1024; could the resolution stretching be lowering the pixel count on my screen?)

This does not apply to Sniper rifles or heavy machine guns, which automatically lower their sensitivity when you zoom in, which makes them perfect for me.

Can anyone offer any advice?

Also whilst reading this thread, can someone zip their PR shortcut and send it my way? Mine stopped working for some reason and when I create a new one it's saying there is no bf2.exe at that location.

Cheers guys

- Heskey

What graphics card, cpu and ram have you got? What's your screen resolution and what fps do you get?

The better your gear, the more accurate you get.

One little tip is to set the ingame mouse sensitivity to 1.0 and adjust only through Windows control panel/ your mouse settings. I find once zoomed in the sensitivity settings tend to conflict with each other causing a lot of jumping.

See this post and copy the shortcut settings:

Note that this has occured on both my old and new system; the old was:

AMD 3700+ 2.2gHz
2GB Kingston DDR1 RAM 400mHz
GeForce 7600+ AGP 256MB (AND my Radeon 9800+ PRO 128MB AGP)

My new is:

Intel Quad-Core Q6600 Kentfield 2.2gHz
3GB Corsair DDR 2 RAM 800mHz (8GB in PC, but Vista 64 was naff so back on XP 32; preparing for the future )
GeForce 8800GT SuperClocked 512MB PCI-E

So, with both shite and pro system, I'm still getting the same problem (Not this PC hasn't been upgraded; the old one blew up so I bought an entire new one).

I can only think it's got something to do with playing a 1280x1024 game at (or at least on) a 1680x1050 monitor?

I'll try it when I'm home from work.

Would it be worth noting what my sensitivities are?

For Windows itself, it's whacked up full (I keep the mouse on the middle sens though, 800dpi I -think-).

For Infantry, it's 5.0, and for all vehicles it's 10.0, with a yaw pitch/factor on all controls set at 10 (though it doesn't seem to make any difference to anything if it's at 1? )

I find when it is above 1.0 it tends to snap to a grid like pattern and I can't do smooth movements.

Do you have the Logitech setpoint software installed? Try changing the pointer acceleration which will amplify large movements. One other thing is if you have that check the settings pacge and make sure "setpoint implementation" is turned on and Windows off.

No doubt I'll need talking through this as I'm using the mouse as plug-and-play without installing any software that came with it, by recommendation of my [T&T] buddies

My older Logitech mice and my new MX518 just don't work correctly without Setpoint, why are your T&T buddies recommending that you don't install it?

Try the resetting to 1.0 thing first and see if that results in smooth (but slow) scrolling.

Heskey mate... not sure what is causing this.. but to give you my recent experiences..

My nice Razer copperhead mouse started playing up... and i had to get my old microsoft mouse out.. flippin ell i could hit a barn door with it... small adjustments needed for long distance shots were impossible, as you have described.

I have what you call an old rig, (i call it my premium gaming rig ) AMD 3500+, 2 GB RAM, x1950 agp etc etc..

When my replacement mouse arrived... bam.. i was back in the game. My in-game common mouse senstivity is set to 0.9 with 2000dpi and it works like a charm, and is anything but slow at moving around. My highest sensitivity setting is for Choppers and that's at 3.0

Settings like 5.0 and 10.0 seem totally nuts to me. So i'd suggest high dpi on the mouse and low settings in-game.
