After TS you started to lag?
You might try dropping your mike down to "TELEPHONE QUALITY"
(1 CHANNEL, 8 BIT, 11025hZ) in Windows audio adv. settings.
That should reduce the amount of data you "upload" when talking.

Come to think about it I remember having the same problem as you but I thought it was network related.
I fixed it by dropping everything on my video card to medium.
Funny thing tho a few days later I set the card to default (all high/no anti aliasing) And it still worked fine. A few weeks later when I jumped in a jet for the first time in ages(due to laggy play before) It seemed a tad slow. Dropping light maps and shadows to medium did the trick for me. Very rare to have any lag or stuttering issues now.

Have you run battlefield cleaner to flush out your video card cache files?
Can't hurt and may help.

remove game, delete folders manually including the one in My Documents. defrag registry. reinstall game.

I've had issues in the past where i've had to do this a few times to get the game working. could be motherboard chipset, slightly squiffy download file used to install. really not sure. but it does happen to some of us.

Also run bf2.exe as single affinity and high priority in the task manager.

If you don't have Numlock, try Caps Lock.

I forgot about that one
CTR-TAB from PR then RIGHT-click,set affinity

Since you "local game" doesn't lag that leaves with:

A.Network
B.PunkBuster
C. What else ?

A.Network
Most people think that if the ping is low it's all good, that's not the case.
Even with a low ping your packets (on the way to the server) can
get dropped by any router between you and server.
Run windows command prompt (START-RUN-cmd) find out the IP
address of the server you're playing,CTR-TAB type in the command prompt TRACERT [ipaddresshere]

Will look like that if you see packets dropped(NO responce) on it's way that might be the problem.
Try a different server (an empty one?)

B. download pbsetup.exe install, then reboot

EDIT**
Just remembered that NVIDIA has it's own 'Firewall" built in to the Network
card that will not be active during the local game, but might cause "problems"
for the Online gaming.Disable any firewalls including the built in windows one (in XP) also try bypassing your router if you have one, by plugging you
PC's NIC directly into the Cable/DSL modem (temporarily).
