Thumbs up Re: Troubleshooting guide: Unable to start PR

I had this same issue, tried everything, checked all the shortcuts but when I went into my mods\pr folder i discovered the problem. the pr executable file wasn't named pr.exe it was just pr with no extension.

I changed the name to pr.exe and it worked.

Actually you changed it to pr.exe.exe

Windows hides extensions by default (Control Panels, Folder Options, Hide extensions of a known type)

Back at it with a different machine. I was never able to get PR running w/o manually swapping shader files, but that method doesn't work now on my new machine (XP-pro, up to date everything, 2.6ghz, 1.57G ram, 7300GTX vid card)
I run a download version of BF2, authorized by EADM, so the PR shortcuts would never work.

What does work:
I can load PR from the 'community' tab in BF2V, and I have access to the PR server search tables.

What doesn't work:
Everything after-clicking on any active server/map will crash to desktop.

Also-curious to see-the pr.exe text file in the main BF2 folder gets larger with every start of PR, and a blank text file named pr.exe is inserted into the mods/pr folder. The pr.exe text file in the main folder contains a series instructions on moving and subsequently restoring various shader and other files. It looks more like a log of actions taken than of actions to take.

I have reinstalled the lot of the programs according to advice through the forums and main site, including a re-install of the bf2v 1.4.1 patch after finalizing the PR levels installation
