Crashes to destop on load..

Ok I just installed PR v.7 first ever download of a PR file and yes i have DLed both the levels and the core files. I'm runing vista and this PC is powerful enough to run crysis on medium settings so no problem on my requirments. Ok so what happens i double click the PR shortcut on desktop i get the square minimized BF2 screen then it trys to go into full screen then goes black as if its loading like normal then crashes to desktop after a few seconds HELP PLZ yes i have BF2..

1. have you read this one? Project Reality Standard Installation Information
if not check the "VISTA USERS" marked sections - and try the hotfix

2. are you sure your download is ok, did you dl via torrent? (e.g. modjives core installer is broke - would have given you a "missing file" message on installation)

3. have you got up-to-date drivers?

MY drivers update automatically via vista and I went through the hotfix thing for vista and wall three of the links i cld find here didnt have anything to download under them so i went to microsoft.com and searched myself and DLed what i thought to be the hotfix and i downloaded via filefront

And yes i followed the directions for the DL and yes i restarted my PC after DL

if you haven't already set the the link to run as Admin as in the linked post - thats what I think your issue sounds most likely

veryfy your download's file integrity by using sha or md5 or crc - what ever is provided

and to be honest the automatic driver update is bollux for gamers
i suggest getting latest drivers for
a) your gfx card
b) your sound card
from the manufactuerer's site (ati, nvidia, creative)


for the hotfix, this should lead you to a valid download
scroll down to "Update information"

edit: also would be good to know if this happens for the regular BF2 as well - and i asume you patched bf to v.1.41!?

ok then how to i verify its integrity useing md5 srs or crc or what ever you said.

And my BF2 run fines and yes 1.41 is DLed as well

use the SHA1 code to compare with the one you get when you scan the file using the above website

edit: need a different site this one only allows 10mb files

FDM - FreeDownloadManager is capable of checking file integrity - actually your download manager should support it anyhow - for FDM its "Shift+I"

you could also just redownload the file if that's more convinient to you - we want to make sure ur installer is not broke - next step would be to reinstall pr

after that i gotta say again: driver updates
vista only automatically downloads the latest CERTIFIED drivers - which are most likely NOT the latest drivers of your manufacturer (the manufactuerer has to pay for the drivers to be certified - so they will just do it every so often)

try deleting ur profiles folder in
C:\Documents and Settings\Your name\My Documents\Battlefield 2

(back it up first just in case it doesnt work)

whenever i start PR my game CTD and i cant seem 2 get it to work at all what can i do?
im tryin to repatch BF2 now, im on vista 32bit and my hardware package can run crysis on medium so as the other guy said i dont think its hardware related and i have the newest drivers

edit: nvm it turned out that my patch was damaged so problem solved
