Default PSU Lagg?

Hey, I'm just posting here to ask about this... is it infact actually possible that my PSU is causing lagg?

Now, I'm pretty good with computers.. but ever since I upgraded my pc (from a 1950pro to a 2600xt, possibly a mistake... but meh and a 3500+ AMD single core AM2 to a 4800+ Dual core) I've been getting odd lagg... it could very well be hard disk lagg, I am not sure. In Half life 2 I get fairly frequent VPU recovery errors, and in PR I get odd lagg, where it will have a really high FPS, but then all of a sudden it will drop dramatically for no real reason (Perhaps I should fraps it for a better diagnosis?).

Well, currently I am running on a 380w Tagan PSU, with 22 Amps on the 12v rail... With my older set up, the 3500+ and 1950pro, I got next to no lagg... Seems strange.

Could it just be a cluttered Hard Disk? 55gb free of 232gb on my main hdd, and 13gb of 73gb on my storage (music and patches etc).

Any answers are appreciated.

Generally speaking, no, the PSU can't cause lag. However, if your PSU is underpowered or defective, I guess it could cause your video card to perform poorly?

Well... Isn't poor performance the same as lagg as it were? (When I say lagg I mean, lower frame rates, freezing for a few seconds etc, not ping lagg).

Is there any reason why you are so focused on the PSU ?

My 2 cents is you need to look elsewhere.

Well, the reason why I am so focused on the PSU, is due to there being quite a few VPU recovery errors in half life 2, and the fact that I've only got a 380w PSU, and the recommendation is 550w. The fact that the computer has a vastly lower FPS since I changed from a 1950pro and 3500+ single core to a 4800+ dual core with a 2600xt makes me think that it cannot be that.

My full specifciations are:
ABIT kn9 Nforce4 Socket AM2 Motherboard
4800+ AMD AthlonXP Dual windsor core
2gb of DDR 667 CAS 4-4-4-12 Corsair Ram
One SATA 8mb Cache 280gb HDD
One IDE 2mb Cache (I think) 80gb HDD
XFI XtremeGameer Edition sound card
Tagan 380w Powersupply 22A on +12v rail

I tried using the calculator, and it suggested 358w was good enough, and I'm on 380w...

Help!

the all of a sudden lagg is probably a high graphic area, like around lotsa people building, vvehicles, explosions etc. have you check the card to make sure it isnt runnin g a little hot? what kind of ISP do you have & speed?
