Default Boot up error...

Thought i would post this here seen as though i trust you guys more than all the other tech guys out there and wondered if you could help me with an issue.
I have 2 pcs, 1 with a crappy ATI and a P4, and another with 2 8600gt's SLI. So i thought *why dont i get rid of my ATI,( not relevant but its a x300) and put 1 of my 8600gt's in my P4 system to play other games such as my MMO collection So i take off the SLI connector and pull one out (unscrew ect..) plug my plugs back in, pop the side on and BINGO its on (for about 5 seconds and BAM! it says "something" lie this *Disk boot failure insert system disk*

I thought maybe my BIOS settings weren't set to defaults so would reseting the BIOS jumper to defaults help? or would the defaults be the same? I did google this problem but found no issues surrounding new or removed hardware just people wanting to reinstall WINDOWS with a disk in. i am currently having to lay PR and bioshock on a P4 with 512 of RAM! I know its not too bad but i just dont liek it . Will edit when i have time to try the jumper. in the mean time
thanks people...

Not too up on SLI but at a guess youd have to disable SLI in the bios so you just using one pciexpress lane, ie no SLI as you just using one card.

Make sure that the remaining card is in the primary pci-e slot not the secondary one.

As for *Disk boot failure insert system disk* check you didnt knock out the power lead and or IDE/Sata lead connecting to your HDD. Thats usually the first thing to check if you get invalid system disk error.

IMHO unless you know exactly what your doing i wouldnt mess with ANY jumper settings. Sometimes getting into the bios to reset it to default settings is the last line of options before you start messing around with jumper settings.

Ah so your saying that i can access my bios to set the defaults before this error comes, and from what i read on the net it says i need to reset my defaults to boot from the HDD but i haven't even messed with bios settings it just happened when i reset my PC. I have made sure the remaining card is in the correct slot bt still the error. will check it out later. thanks man it could very well be 1 of my cables.

Yeah, you can access the bios settings during initial power-on sequence.
Normally it tells you what key to hit but it could be ESC or F8 or something like that.
Pay attention to the screen when you turn your PC on and look for clues

I'm no hardware tech but I don't see how you could get a Disk Boot failure from removing one graphics card....
Sure it might not start but me thinks you should get a different error... I'm most probably wrong though. I usually am.
