Last night I was in a server with my map I just released. We had 5 people in the room and things were GREAT. Next thing i know I lose the internet for all programs and im sitting on my desktop.
Not a terrible thing, just annoying. So im sitting there trying to get back on to at least say 'bye and thanks' to everyone on the connection... but i cant. i figure my schools internet was reset or something, so I decided to shut down my PC and start it back up, which I did. I leave the room to go to the bathroom, come back 30sec. later, and my monitor is constantly cycling through the various input modes (i think?) The screen goes from black(totally off i think) to black(but "on" seemingly as it is a different black than the "monitor is off black") then goes to displaying my actual PC startup info (black screen/white text/ windows login screen) HOWEVER, it only stays on this display for a second and then continues cycling inputs or whatever. And, when it shows my actual PC screen, the image is VERY distorted, very jagged as if every few lines of the image are shifted intensely to one side and then the other for example, what should be a straight line down my monitor ends up looking like a seismograph... I have a 19 inch LCD monitor, refresh rate was 75Hz which is it max, but I managed to get to the display properties through all the image cycling and change it to 60Hz thinking this might fix it.... no joy. still wont work. anyone have any idea? should i buy a new one? they are so expensive though....... ughhh... why me? or anyone.... ** Connections have been checked, unplugged, replugged, restarted, etc. I will try to get hold of someone that will let me test their monitor on my PC... i only know people with laptops near me... |

It's probably not your monitor, It's most likely faulty software or corrupted drivers(You did say you were playing a map you just made when your PC failed?)
- Try Booting in safe mode. This runs windows with minimal drivers and no loaded software. When the post screen comes up, press F8. This will bring you to the Windows advanced options menu. Choose safe mode. If your screen comes back (don't let the 640x480 screen resolution freak you out...heh) then it is probably that map that corrupted your system and that means your BF2 is probably crapped out as well now. - If that doesn't work, or you can't access system restore from programs menu, reboot and again press f8, go back to advanced options. Select last known good configuration option. Hardware: - It could also be a major system memory error. Re-seat RAM (after turning off PC, pull memory out of slots and firmly replace. - General video card malfunction. Check to see if card's fans are working. Try re-seating Video card like you did with the RAM. Good luck |

had a few tech friends come over... So, the fan i bought and had installed some time ago was tight up against some cords, and eventually, the thin metal planes that help get rid of heat cut through the wires(?) and eventually shorted out and ruined the graphics card(?) thats our assumption. monitor is fine... i'm ok myself, but Im either going to have to deal with ATI and hope they canr eplace it, even though I didnt register with them, deal with BestBuy, though thats a laugh, or suck it up, wipe my tears, and buy a new graphics card. one that is better and 1337er than this one... bye bye x1900Gt... bye bye... Thanks for the response... although im sure it wouldve been more helpful to SEE the computer, but thanks anyway... | |

Glad I could help and too bad about that card it's a decent one. By the way; You don't have to register the product to get warranty or service help from ATI....also Best buy has been very reliable in the past...and I'm reading you said [the fan i bought and had installed] shouldn't you go back to the place you had the fan installed?
