RAM usage is appalling.. with 2GB under XP my machine can get annoyingly slow (lots of HD access when running a bunch of mod dev tools concurrently). Under Vista it was unbearable and I need to toss in another 2GB of RAM (4 total) to get performance like I have with XP is the conclusion I have drawn.

I had more BSODs in the 10 days or so I ran Vista than I have had with XP on the same machine in months.

Not really complaining... I have it on a dual boot partition simply because I knew it would be shite, but I did expect that it would be more solid and have broader driver support than I experienced.

Am waiting on a service pack and better drivers before I give it another go.

Install Unix/Linux and see the light
Your parents might even see it too

@ Microsoft's Q&A: I have a hard time buying their statement that Vista was made "with games in mind". The ONLY thing they provided was a directory(?). There is no performance-related feature to make games more playable. In fact, it acts the other way around. Also, anyone with knowledge about Microsoft's campaigns in the past, knows that they've been deceiving and just plain bs. Just look at the API Wars between Direct3D and OpenGL, or their "Get the facts" campaign where they say that Windows is more secure than Unix/Linux and many other things..

Ok ok...I'll stop now.

There's Cedega and there's Wine among, possibly, others. I do have windows, but only for 2 reasons:

1. I'm a developer, so I need to write programs for Windows users (although Im loking at writing cross-platform code);
2. Games

There's no other reason for me to keep Windows installed. Everything else, done in the other side

I've installed the hotfixes and I'm going to test them out now. I'll inform you guys if it does improve gaming with Vista or not.

Edit: The hotfix made things even worse than before. Don't know if maybe it didn't install properly, but now I'm getting these horrible stuttering spikes sometimes and the sounds around me go all crazy for no reason.
