I know I am probably way off base here but I thought I would throw this out there. If as you say your getting really good FPS but the screen looks choppy try enabling Vsync. You may be experiencing tearing. I know on my system without Vysnc on I can get the framerate jumping around abit and causing some visual issues. You might need to activate triple buffering through riva tuner with vysnc enabled.

This is probably not your problem but you never know.

I actually tried enabling vsync and triple-buffering before I rea dthe last post and was just about to come here and say that this is my solution.

I had to go to the Nvidia control panel and 'force' Vsync and Triple Buffering to both be on. The result is a much smoother experience. Quite odd why I didn't get th stuttering/choppiness in other BF2 engine games, but nevermind.

Just a note on the tripple buffering. The tirpple buffering option in the Nvidia control panel is only for OpenGL games, BF2 is DirectX (majority of games are). If you download the newest version of riva tuner go to start menu -programs -riva-divxoveride (I think that is what its called??) anyway it isn't part of the usual riva tuner interface, it is a small application that comes bundled with it and runs in the background, it allows you to enable tripple buffering for directx games.

I got the same problem, it shutters so much i can't do anything. This never happened with XP, i know it's vista doing this. I have a great rig, but i don't have an 8 series card, no need to upgrade.

specs:

Vista Ultimate
Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.0ghz
2x WD 250gb HD Raid 0
Intel D975XBX2
eVGA 7900gtx 512mb
2gb OCZ Reaper DDR2-8500

Probably won't be any help, but I noticed on one post someone had tried it but has everyone else with problems tried this in single player? If it runs fine in that, would it not point to a network/internet setting somewhere that may be specific to BF2? Are you all using Vista, those of you that have problems?

I don't know much about vista yet. I have heard you can run programs in XP compatible mode, might help. I have also heard that Vista on it's own needs 2GB of ram ( way to go MS). If you still have a copy of XP you might be able to run two OS and boot under XP to game.
