Default VOIP troubleshooting

Last week people in a squad I was in complained about a low feedback from my mic. So I tested it, re-adjusted some levels and still had it. So I tried to adjust the settings outside of BF2 and my mic only works for about a second after hitting the mic button, but with no audible feedback. Its coming through clear as a bell in every other mic compatible application I use with no problems, so I can't blame it on hardware failure. Any ideas?

edit: Erm, I hit the wrong forum area... This probably should be in bugs, sorry.

Try the voice setup file in the bf2 main folder:

- go to my computer
- local disk (c)
- program files
- EA Games
- Battlefield 2

Select BF2VoiceSetup. Try adjusting the Voice capture volume.

I think this might be something I'll have to take up with EA. I got nothing under the voice setup file.

edit: By nothing, I mean when I spoke into the mic, nothing happened.

Do you get any sort of green flicker on the bar when you speak, if not then try selecting +10db mic gain boost in audio controls in windows.

If you do get a green flicker, adjust the bottom most bar until you get a satisfactory volume.

Once this is all tested in this setup app, adjust the transmit volume in-game, as a rul of thumb on my mic i set mine (a sensitive mic to 40% transmit and 100% receive) though on other mics this will need to be different.)

and if you are new to VOIP dont forget by default you have two keys for voice V & B. b for the squad, and V to the commander if SL.

Swiftdraw, man your gonna have to consider a reinstall of BF2. EA will advise you to at least try that. I just had a thought, and I'm not sure about it but it's worth a ponder; Do you by any off chance have a communication port closed via your firewall? I have a port conflict myself...I can't use an outside VOIP program such as Ventrilo or TeamSpeak together with in game VOIP.

I hope not, my firewall is based in the router and I don't have access to that. It did get re-booted recently, but I was having issues before then. I'll run it by the local techy and see what he says. The VOIP also worked fine since I've been playing BF2 last year, and just as well on PR until last week. I checked my drivers and codec and they're up to date too, as per EA recommendations . Gah, I hope I don't have to re-install, but I'll probably will do that this weekend if this doesn't get resolved.

As for the flickering, I do get that while testing in BF2, if just for a split second. In the sound test in the system folder I get nothing. The boost gain outside of BF2 might make me a tad deafening in other games considering my mic works fine with them. As for being new to VOIP, not at all. I find the game extremely annoying to play without it.

Thanks for the help.

If it only changed last week, think about if you have installed anything new since then. New sound drivers? If not then try a new PR user profile first, and if no joy there, try re-installing BF2 completely.

I'm going to attempt a re-install, if that doesn't work I've no idea what will.

Edit: Re-install failed to produce any results.

If it was working fine last week, you might try; System Restore: Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools.

The thing is though, it amazes me how people are so adverse to reinstalling programs. The most prevalent problems are corrupt files, path or extension and a reinstall is by far the easiest fix.

Easy, laziness. My BF2 Deluxe edition is 5 disk and take awhile to load, plus patching, which if you deleted the install file (which I did unfortantly) takes another 5 or more minutes to get that as well. Well, I'm going to try somethings tomorrow and if they don't work I'm SOL'd. Maybe the restore might help, maybe not, give it a try and see what goes on.

Thanks for the help all, but I doubt there is much more I can get here. Thank you all very much and hope to see ya'll in game (I'm identitystolen in game btw.)
