Default What is causing the low fps?

On PR 909, my PC gets okay fps on only one map: Asad Khal(1km) - ranges from 27-46fps.

Every other map, I lag unless I look at the ground or sky.

Is this due to my lack of RAM(currently have 1gb) or other things(I have a Nvidia Geforce 8400GS and a Pentium 4 2.65ghz single core POS CPU)?

I am trying to spend the least amount of money to make PR playable(I do not play any other 3d games... I mainly play Japanese Visual Novels and watch anime on my PC), please help.

Btw, there is very little change in fps(or nothing at all) when I decreased everyting to low/off.

i have seen that effect as well, seems to be when the system is hitting its limits

"Resource Monitor" (built into vista and win7) will give you an insight on where the bottleneck is (1GB is pretty damn low )

check if the lag is syncronous to your HDD activity indicator LED - that means alot of access to the disk is causing the probem (loading textures etc) - probably due to excessive usage of the pagefile

CPU usage is around 50-60%

I guess it is still the RAM.

i have a q6600 quad core, 4 gigs of ram and a 9600gt 1gig and i do FPS lag on some maps, especially scoping in and out of rifles, i think it may just be a texture in the map which is inefficient and causing lag?
and yes i would buy another gig of ram, its cheap enough

For me, scoping in actually increase 10fps or more... lol.

Thanks everyone, I will try RAM first.

One more thing: is a RAM extension PCI board going to work as well as just RAM plugger into the Mobo?

Scoping also improve fps for me xD

I have this system ( CPU : Athlon 4400 X2 , GPU : Geforce 8600 GT , 3GBs RAMS , Win7 ) and the game still lags even with lowest graphics + view distance 75%. My framerate is between 5 and 50 fps. I guess that with 1GB you will lag. And the other guy who has 768MB rams , I don't know how you can play with that xD

Yeah, its odd. On some maps ( iron ridge, yamalia and some more ) i have serious lag and low fps, but i still can play other maps with no problem. Map loading times are huge though (3 to 5 min)

There is a memory leak. I have 4GB of ram and certain times it's going up to 1.5GB for BF2...I play newer and much more demanding games that don't go this high.
