Post Yet another connection to server has been lost issue.

Before i get torn a new one let me just start off by saying i did a little searching and could find no one with a problem similar to mine.

The issue- Every time i connect to a server and i am just about to pick my kit it freezes, gives me the problem with your connection message and i end up back at the server select menu with the message "The connection to the server has been lost".

The odd thing is back at my place i never had this problem, it only happens at my girlfriends house. Its not a .9 issue because it used to happen with .8 as well. Other than this everything runs smooth and i have changed nothing on my computer coming from my place to here. Only difference in the source of the connection.

Any ideas? I really want to try .9 before i leave

that really sounds like a network problem but we will need a lot more information

how are you connected to the internet at your GF, how at your place? (router/direct, if router WLAN or cable?)
what type of connection is each? (DSL)

your "computer" is that a laptop? specs plz
which OS???

with router:
first guess: a firewall prolem (incoming traffic blocked either due to fw-rule or false DOS-Attack detection)
second guess: NAT problem
third guess: plain unstable connection

don't download stuff via the same connection (make sure your GF is not downloading anything either)

Its a wireless connection via router and back at my place i played both wireless and with an ethernet cable. My computer is in fact a laptop and the specs are as follows.....

Sony Vaio
Windows 7 home premium 64 bit
Intel core 2 duo 2.13GHz
6 GBs of DDR2
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650

I cant see it being an issue of there being too much traffic because the only thing that gets downloaded in this house is small music files and that doesnt even happen everyday and even then its only maybe 20 minutes at a time. Other than that there might be an iPod or two connected and an Xbox but thats about it.

Im not sure what kind of connection she has, its optimim online high speed. I remember i had the same connection back when i still lived in NYC and i never had trouble with it.

Hope this info helps.

tough one...
things i mention here are suggestions no definit solutions (you should check after each to find the right one)

first off: check if it sais "limited connectivity"
on your laptop go into network and sharing center, see if it reports a connection to the internet (symbols up top should have your pc name, home network name, internet

are there other networks within range?
go in that same window on "Manage wireless networks" and see which are listed, if there are any that you do not recognize remove them - you might connect to them just because for some wierd reason windows things its got a better connection to it

on go into properties of the right WLAN and
check the box "connect automatically ..."
uncheck the box "connect to a more preferred network if available"
check the box "connect even if ..."

at that window click on security
post here what security and encryption type you are using (password not required to post!)

so far as what you can check on your laptop
but there is also the possiblity that the router is not configured correctly - you will need access to it
assign a fixed IP for your laptop
check the logs for errors/warnings - especially "DOS Attack blocked" or anything that might indicate that you have been denied some packages

check the firewall settings for strange rules
usually it is not required to open/forward ports since you are not running a server - but some routers will by doing so allow outgoing traffic as well based on such rules
