Default vbf2 crashes after spashscreen....

as some of you may know, i have had computer.... diffuclulties, and the only way i could fix them was an os reinstall....

i did that, and now my problem is kinda like how it started..... i cant play bf2..... it is the only game i have installed scince i just did the os reinstall....
all my bf2 disks are scratched to bad to use for install anymore, so i had copyed my bf2 files two a external hard drive, and then put it back onto the computer after the os thing...

i had to use parts of disk one and disk 3 to install with....
i dl'ed pr, made sure everything was patched then installed pr.i tried to run it, but it came up with the vinnila bf2 splash screen, and the screen went black for a second, then the game crashed.... then i tried vbf2 and the same thing happened.....

any ideas?

EDIT: ss of eoor added

Can you get hold of BF2 disk that isn't borked and run from that? Could be to do with running disc less.

Are you running from a patched .exe that doesn't need discs or an image of the disc?
