Operation Athena's Shield
Map: 4x4 Factions: GB vs Turkey (placeholder- MEC) Locations: Karpathos (Greece) Just a map idea for the moment! I am looking for a reliable and experienced mapper to help pull this off as I would like to focus on creating unique static’s for this project. Map Information/Background (will be expanded but general idea...) On July 13th 2015, Diplomatic tensions between Greek and Turkish Governments collapsed over the dispute of several islands across the agean, and which nation should occupy these islands. At 0700 hours Admiral Metin Ataçsent, Commander of the Turkish Navy ordered a small naval task force to seize several important islands along the agean to shock the Greek government into handing over these small prizes. However intervention from the UN ordered in a coalition to help defend these islands against any further attacks. On July 19th, A small British task force, consisting of soldiers from 3 para and 1st battalion Grenadier Guards along with air support from No. 1 Squadron RAF, were sent to defend an vital airbase on the small island of Karpathos. During the first 10 days of deployment to the island, a threat of a hostile take over seamed unlikely. However during the early hours of July 29th all that changed.. Map

Operation Athena's Shield
Location: Karpathos (Greece) Map Size: 4km x 4km Factions: Gr:for (Placeholder British Forces) vs Turkish Armed Forces (Placeholder MEC) Mission Brief Background.. On 22nd March 2013, Relations between Greece and Turkey reached breaking point as a dispute over ownership of several islands in the Aegean, which were claimed to be 'stolen' from their rightful owners Turkey. Violent protests over ownership and the recent decline in the Turkish economy broke out in the Turkish capitol Ankara, And other large scale riots in Istanbul and Izmir. Previous peaceful negotiations to reclaim the islands by the Turkish government were meet with limited success, and as the Turkish governments popularity was beginning to fall it was looking for a cause to win back the people, by ceasing back the islands they proclaimed to be Turkish. On 27th March 2013, suicide bombings in Athens killed 12 and injured 45 more. Reports stated that it was a Turkish based terrorist attack with a clear message. The following day on the 28th March Prime Minister David Cameron and President Barak Obama meet with Prime Minister Georgios A Papandreou to discuss the recent hostilities in the Mediterranean with a primary strategy in mind. A joint British, US defensive task-force named GR:FOR to be sent in the aid of Greece to help as a 'peacekeeping' operation. On the 2nd of April this task force was sent and dispatched to several islands to help against a possible Turkish invasion. On 14th April 2013 a Turkish contingency consisting of 2 battleships and 6 Destroyers began to cease a chokehold around several Greek islands along the coast of Turkey, officially leading to a state of war between the two countries. Karpathos Scenario.. On 2nd April 2013, Soldiers from 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards where dispatched with the help of Right Flank, Scots Guards to the Island of Karpathos to set up defensive countermeasures with 32nd Marines Brigade (Hellenic Army) and begin training for the possible threat of attack. These soldiers were backed up with help from 6 Squadron (RAF) and Army Aircore. After the official declaration of war on the 14th April, the battalion was put on stand-by and were to await imminent attack. On the morning of the 16th, Turkish fighter aircraft began to cease control of the air around Karpathos allowing for a landing party of Turkish Marines to begin deployment just off the coast of Arkassa. Unique Features.. The map will feature a completely new set of Greek orientated static?s New GR:FOR Faction, A joint faction using both Greek and British Soldiers New Turkish Faction Mini-Map ![]() Real life map ![]() Screenshot -Yet to be released- Current Tasks being worked on.. Hmm..... Greeks vs. Turks.... Only a person from the Balkans can understand the complications of this....
But to stay on topic... This will be alot of work! I know that there is a Turkish ComFac in the works so that might not be that much of a problem but a Greek ComFac and a complete set of Greek statics and not to metion vegitation ( cos AFAIK mediterranian (need some spell check here) vegitation is different than the one found in the midle east, afgan, china, russia and others), now that will take some time. |

I believe that the airfield model you are using is discouraged in being implemented into new maps. There are problems with jets falling off the taxiway, exploding, and never being able to get back onto the runway. Just to let you know before you start making detailed work around the airport area.
