Welcome to the mapper community
Just a small (but important) advice in the beginning : Do not care about details such as assets , flags etc at the initial part of the developing prcoess nor somewhere in the middle but at the very end. First get your terrain and your textures as good as possible, then start to place statics, overgrwoth etc and at the very end place the flags and objectspawners etc. You should of course have a rough plan of how the map should look like in mind. Good luck ! |

I think US vs MEC is a little samey, I would prefer something less obvious as we also have a US vs MEC desert map which 4x4km. Something like PLA vs militia for example.
Also, dont realy on structures/settlements/man-made things as objectives. Its just too obvious. Go for a map where most of the things to hold are actually strategic areas in the terrain, such as a river crossing, a thin pass, etc. If you basically avoid all but the minimum statics that you need (ie, no oil pumps, towns or villages) then you will get it done quicker. The more progress you see, the more you are inclined to continue. I would also go with a map which is, basically, just based on vehicles. No infantry part in the middle that will end up being a bowl-of-death, ala kashan. The bigger the cap radius on flags the better, they should always be areas instead of buildings. |

XKCD forums, in the middle of a perfectly sane conversation:

I think USA v. MEC is fine. Of course I say that because I like the A10.

Hmmm... A road full of burned civilian (And perhaps military) vehicles sounds interesting. And after is based on a real event during the first gulf war. It's be a spooky place for an ambush (If the road has still some open lanes for the transit of vehicles despite the amount of detroyed vehicles).

Why not a heavy asset map with the PLA and the US as i have not seen one Map where the PLA fight the US with Armour and jets.

Make it US versus China in the Gobi desert instead?
And I agree with Jonny on that you shouldn't use man-made structures as objectives. Try doing something less obvious, like a huge cap area that is quite open or, as Jonny suggested, important strategic positions in the terrain. We'll see how you solve this, and I'm looking forward to some progress. Good luck! |

nice draw up, but don't spend so much resources on just typing and making pretty banners. Because by the time you actually want to get mapping you will be burned out.
Get some work done first, and show us that. Anyway, good luck, don't go too much into what assets to use. Unlike most vanilla games, the whole aspect of map making for a reality game is that vehicles are build for maps, not the map around the vehicles. (hope that comes out right :P) |
