You dont promote an idea, you promote the finished product.

If you want any kind of praise then I suggest you show us progress on the map, not some fancy images that wont actually be on the map in any way. ie, post a heightfield, fly-through tour, screenshots, interesting parts of the terrain as a grid (DONT go overboard here or it screws things up a LOT more than you would imagine).

I skimmed through the vid, and its not clear that you have actually got the terrain started properly yet unless I missed something.

Have you considered skinning rather than mapping?

I made this quick-video to show what my ideas are:

Project Reality map: 'Udairi Desert' promo on Vimeo (HD 720p)

I know you can take as much time as you see fit, but I would really love an rough estimation on the time to create a 4km (Bare) desert map like this.
I know is 4km but is practically 'just sand'...

Keep in mind I have never mapped before....

My advice, start with a 1km map. I learned allot very fast with very little help and I had 3 months off of work to put in 7-12 hours a day. Korengal took about 6 months. And I have a back ground in 3d and games.

Also 4km have allot of problems which are logged. I think if your gonna jump into mapping starting a 4km is the worst thing you can do.

But u should give some credit to the MEC too

Dunno why is everyone obsessed(mostly) with the A-10, the froggy could blast em from the sky easyer then the other way around, anyway next time add opposing faction photos too

There are four sized maps
512 = 0.5km (old streets)
1024 = 1km (Korengal Valley)
2048 = 2km (Archer)
4096 = 4km (Kashan)
