I am not sure if its a RAM issue for you too...
DDR2 800 runs at 400mhz internally but works as 800mhz memory in action. DDR3 is same, DDR3 800 would run 200mhz internally. And if you have 2gb, yes might have something to do with lack of fps in some places, I would recommend you get the 4gb.

If I'm not mistaken, the BF2 1.5 Patch fixed that so you don't need to manually edit the exe anymore.

I actually needed to ask this. I frequently crash on map change, and have slow map loadings.
