Default GT300 Thoughts?

Sounds beastly to me, I'm guessing for the pocketbook too :P

So whats gonna be new?

nVidia still has to release official specs, but rumors have been flowing over the interwebz for quite awhile. Most people are confident that is supports MIMD or Multiple-Instruction Multiple Data. Previous cards have been base off SIMD, Single-Instruction Multiple Data. Multiple=better So, prevous card had 24 cores, boooring, the 300 series will bump up the 32 cores, and have 16 packs of them, thats 512 cores! That right there raises the power 2x. If the clocks run the same as the 200 series, then you can work out about 6-15x more powerful than GT200.

Quote:
If for instance, nVidia gets a 2 GHz clock for the 512 MIMD cores, we are talking about no less than 3TFLOPS with Single-Precision. Dual precision is highly-dependant on how efficient the MIMD-like units will be, but you can count on 6-15x improvement over GT200.
Now I kinda have my doubts they will be as powerful as some websites have been saying, but Intel has stepped over to work a little in GPU technology, now nVidia is returning and stepping into the CPU zone. Mockingly the new GT300 has been called a cGPU. So maybe nVidia is really bring out the big guns.

nVidia's GT300 specifications revealed - it's a cGPU! - TechEnclave

They were saying it would be out in a few months in March, soooo maybe its soon...Will probably cost $600+, but imagine what it will do with 200 series cards, they will be dirt cheap.

Post any other stuffs you have heard, I know The Inquirer has a lengthly article, but some say the writer of it was such a AMD/ATi fanboy that most of the mush he said is just hate. But most sites I have visited have said they have reliable resources saying things are true. Its gonna be up in the air until nVidia comes out and actually gives some info out...

supposed to be Q4 2009 will be nice to see prices drop but don't think it will be a major drop for a while. Just wonder what your need to have the GT300 not bottlenecked.

One word came to my mind: Crysis.

Yeah, this is definitely going to be overpriced for a long while. When it drops to the $200 range, all the hype is going to be on GT400. Sigh

I'm going to boot my CPU and just use the GPU for anything.

Nah that sounds great. I'm however very curious if the card will be as good as the websites tell.
