Two questions:

1. Why did you keep the stock (unrealistic) way that they reload the pistols? They shouldn't need to cock the thing after they've just emptied a mag, he should just have to hit the slide release.

2. Why would you waste time tapping a magazine on your helmet (as he does with the QBZ) in battle? That just seems like unnecessary flash to me.

#1 is not unrealistic considering you can actually do it that way.

#2 is something that could be debated. It lowers the probability of jamming significantly, so some may or may not take the risk.

All in the name of slowing down gameplay.

They had to do it because of the limit of 1 animation per action.

There can't be separated animation for dry and tactical reload.

If there would be the animation you want it the slide would just magically pop back each time you hit the reload button.

This is just the lesser evil .

This is actually the most realistic reload for the pistol in the game mechanics, because it explains that even with a tactical reload the ammo count doesnt go above 15.

I agree with you Simplify, IRL no-one would do that. Same thing with the assault rifle. When I served (with the G3) we trained to fire 19 rounds and changing clip. In a live situation many load their clip with 3 tracers in the bottom to know when its time for a new clip.

Making completely new animations and programming just to change clips if there is a round in the chamber and slide release action sounds to me like overkill. But maybe somtime in the future, PR 2.91 on another engine?

When it comes to reloading what takes the longest time is getting a fresh clip from the ammo bag. With the new reloading animations (witch looks amazing btw) I won't complain. Reality is long reload time.

Magazine.

And yes, it is also something that as a civilian I was taught to do with weapons that have a detachable magazine. Crysis actually has this in their game by default, though they opted to chose the (bullets in mag) / (leftover bullets) approach.
